Default Licenses, insured and street legal?????????????

This morning in the Lopez golf cart parking area, I saw a cart exactly the same as mine. Same brand, same color, same half ass-ed headlights, same tires and wheels, same fold down windshield, no windshield wipers, same dashboard, no speedometer. (mine is not street legal) On the back of this carts's basket (same basket as mine) facing to the rear was a sign that read, "Licenses, insured and street legal."

There was a Florida plate on the cart, but lots of carts have plates. (I have a New York). Does anybody know exactly what is necessary to be "street legal?" A sign? ;D

I don't know the answer for sure, but those GEM carts are all "street legal". I know they have seat belts, head lights and tail lights. Those items are optional on a golf cart. I think speed has something to do with it too - not sure if speed capability requires being street legal, or the other way around.
As for Handie's question, I think that's street illlegal.

Street Legal---must be factory designed ( Bombardier, Nev, etc ) max speed 25mph

Golf carts that are modified to go over 20 mph after they come from factory are illegal-period. They are not designed to go over 20 mph.

Street legal is an automobile by Florida law and no different than an automobile. You must have a valid driver's license, required Florida automobile insurance, register and tagged.

The Villages Homeowner's Assn. has their golf cart safety meeting the 3rd Wednesday of each month at the Savannah Center 10:00am. Law enforcement from Sumter, Lake and Marion County attend and answer all you questions.

We have a electric Club Car NEV that is registered (has a VIN number), seat belts, reflectors, side mirrors, and turn signals and can go about 25 MPH. Almost everyone around here with a Club Car has a NEV because there's a lot of hills and we need the extra oomph to get up them doing a reasonable speed. It is legal on 25 mph streets. You don't have to have a license in AZ to drive it and you don't pay yearly registration fees. We are bringing it to TV with us because that's what we have. I know I won't speed because I'm short and if I sit back comfortably, I can't "floor it" so I'll be within the speed limit. Can't speak for hubby, but I promise I'll nag. :cop:

In Florida you can drive on roads with a speed posted 35mph or lower.
