If the health department was actually concerned with our health, they'd shut down all of the McDonalds in the country.

As a Fast Food operations guy for over 35 years with MAJOR chains managing over 60 restaurants (including McDs) I can assure you that MOST of these infractions listed are basic and can be found in most EVERY FOOD ESTABLISHMENT YOU CURRENTLY EAT AT! Don't be "dooped" into thinking because some of these infractions are not listed on other businesses reports that they are not present there! The issue here is the NUMBER of infractions noted on one visit. In all my years in the food business (last 35 years Fast Food) when something like this has happened it has been because the General Manager has "****ed off" the inspector OR the inspector is a NEW INSPECTOR "fresh out of Health Inspector school" trying to "Make their mark"! I have seen this MANY, MANY times. The inspectors are OFTEN not calibrated and could lead to inspections like this. The Health Dept. may also be trying to make a statement here as well if McDs has not been fixing previously noted issues (previous scores and items unknown). Being in the business and knowing the health code myself I can go to MOST ANY restaurant and develop an infraction list similar to the one kitty has posted above. Obviously there is a management and training issue here BUT keep in mind that the playing field is NOT LEVEL when it comes to Health Department Inspectors and the report DOES NOT tell the whole story. Be cautious to condemn. Read each infraction Line by Line and decide which ones are REALLY an issue that matters. The basics are listed as Basic for a reason: They are common infractions and do not threaten public health typically.
The 4 listed as High Priority are the ones to be concerned about. Flies in the kitchen - but if the restaurant has doors that open (all do) at times their will be flies present. Yes the Pest Control is obviously not effective based on the # of roaches found but will be a pretty easy fix and I'm confident will be fixed. Washing hands with gloves on is obviously wrong and a internal training issue that I am sure will be dealt with. The Fast food industry has some of the BEST guidelines and procedures to be found anywhere in the food industry. The small "Mom and Pop" restaurants are typically much more "loosey goosey" regarding following Health Dept. guidelines so sometimes the posted score does not tell the whole story and may give you a False sense of security.

This is one of only a few coherent posts on this thread.

The food at McDs will kill all the roaches and flies. Let them eat!

So as I understand it, if they can get rid of the flies and roaches and the employees wash their hands properly, and I can feel good about going to this McDonalds? These are just some minor infractions of Fast Food industries guidelines and procedures? Not to my standards!

I would bet if food safety inspectors inspected our homes
We would not meet Serve Safe restaurant standards.

Than I guess you DO NOT eat out in restaurants at all since many of these infractions exist most everywhere? Not saying it is OK just don't be fooled thinking that these infractions do not exist elsewhere! Just speaking from experience (reality)!

Absolutely true, and I made similar comments in my post yesterday. I even gave the link Restaurant Inspections where people can check it out for themselves. Unfortunately, the fact that violations are common place in the vast majority of restaurants seem to be irreverent to some as they continue to take advantage of the opportunity to bash McDonalds anyway - for whatever their reasons are!

They do have good coffee! And a few decent items on their menu.

Nothing to do with their food but the Ronald McDonald houses across the country provide a wonderful service.

Two shows I sometimes watch on television are "Restaurant Impossible" and "Bar Rescue". They both deal with failing restaurants or bars that call in a consultant to help them fix their businesses. The terrible and gross things that are in the kitchens on those shows far exceeds anything I read about in McDonalds. In some shows, the consultant has gone into the business and immediately kicked all the customers out and shut down the restaurant or bar until it could be fumigated, cleaned, and the personnel retrained in proper food handling procedures. Yet, these places had gone on for years without the health department shutting them down. We seem to complain about government regulations (and enforcement of those regulations) hurting business, and then we are amazed when businesses take shortcuts to cut costs and improve profits. The owner of this Mcd's fixed the problem right away as soon as it startied costing him money and lots of bad publicity. Restaurants are tough businesses. Most of them fail. But when someone opens a restaurant they have a first obligation to follow all rules to protect the public health, no matter how inconvenient it may be.

In today's Daily Sun there is an article about Mc Donald's. Just passed by and they look as crowded as ever.
