It is absolutely NOT an invasion of privacy!
If the poster trespassed it would be. However he did it from the street. He's making a compliment on what the OWNER of the home wants US to see.

Most homeowners in TV are proud of their home and it shows in the neatness of the property, the design of the landscaping, the choice of flowers and shrubbery and the paint colors, trim and roof shingles.

Let me ask you this: Is it an invasion of privacy to drive around TV during Christmastime and look at all the decorations? Is it wrong to take pictures of all the lights?
Of course not.
If you want privacy, put up a big solid fence or pull down your shades.
The OP had something nice to say and share with all of us. No need to be snobbish.

His filming has nothing to do with real estate ads, Google, county property records — things we all know we have to expect as a matter of course.

If he knows the owners and asked permission, I apologize — but I don’t think that is what’s going on with this video.

I think he has invaded someone’s privacy to use in some kind of “show” he is doing about TV — and I think that is either a thoughtless or arrogant thing to do.

My guess is that if he has given this any thought at all, he thinks because he is making “nice” comments (unlike some posters here) he thinks it’s OK to declare open season on a random owner’s home.

Unless the owner gave permission, the YouTube video, and this thread, too, need to be taken down.

But I would bet the homeowner knows nothing about this (for now).

I hope the person who is out and about doing this kind of thing will give more thought to his behavior. If he does that and still thinks it’s OK. . .well, then — geez, what a clod.

Wow.....
.you say...unlike some posters here..... sorry , but you sound very nasty yourself...
This guy does have a little show, if you wanna call it that, he does with his wife and they cover a million places of interest on the villages, all unbiased, general info.
I'm pretty sure there are no laws broken here, with or without owners permission...in fact I'm sure the owner was tickled to be in his video.
What the heck is going on down here lately, people are so cranked up. I thought tv was the friendliest place to be? Surely not anywhere near you.

Since you asked — Christmas lights are different. We bought in a village close to the elaborate Christmas display that used to happen every year in Hadley so I am well aware of the planning that goes into displays like that. It was impressive and fun and intended to be a “show” so that was all perfectly fine. Such a display is done for the public.

I remain of the opinion that if this video was done without the owner’s permission, it was a downright tacky thing to do. “Nice” comments by the guy are are not the issue. No absolution there.

If he continues to drive around and film homes to “feature” in his YouTube videos, he needs to ask permission from the owners. (Maybe he did that — but I doubt it — and like I said above, if so, I apologize.)

Your comparison to Christmas lights is not a true comparison. One is invited. One (likely) was not.

Btw, my manners are not “snobbish” like you said.

I remain,

"Tacky"? That's a matter of opinion

Illegal? Absolutely not.

Your definition of "invited" is flawed.

It would be like saying everyone's Ring doorbell, Nest cam, etc, that happens to capture a neighbors house, is in violation of the law.

What about the aerial photos used on The Villages home listings, or private realtors who capture other than the home which is for sale? Is that a violation as well? No.

What about news crews filming a house from the street?

Where is your proof? We'd all love to know, otherwise this too will just go back and forth.

Addendum to my post #34 above:

I have no doubt that if he wants to feature homes — or gardens — or whatever in his future videos and asks permission from homeowners, he would get it — maybe 50% (or more) of the time.

In fact, if he gets into a general asking for volunteer homeowners, he would probably get enough to make a regular “feature” with everybody happy — no lines crossed— and I do not mean property lines. I mean the lines of behavior with others.

Some people like to show their homes. For example, every city has home shows with people actually opening their homes to the ticketed public, usually as a fundraiser for a community project — mostly in historic neighborhoods where their homes are truly a labor of love they want to share. Do I ever go to them? Yes. But that’s different. Those are by invitation. (They always have booties at the door, and I politely put them on, of course.)

And do I ever drive by to gawk at especially beautiful homes or landscapes? Of course.

But that’s different. I am not recording, commenting, and slapping it up on the internet.

This guy could be onto a popular feature for his videos — but I call bs on any uninvited drive-by version.

And soooooo — if he wants to do this, he needs to do it with just plain, old-fashioned manners, politely asking first. He would get people who would love to have their homes featured.

(And for those who keep on keeping on — please pay attention — for the 1000th time, I said if he asked permission, I apologize for my assumption.)

Well, enough of this trying to explain nuance and manners to those posters here who insist on interpreting things only as either/or — with ‘em or agin ‘em — always looking for somebody to gang up on. Geez. The Mean Streets of TOTV are full of the usual traffic this morning. . .

So much predictable posting — often displaying a textbook projection of their own consistent behavior as posters — always looking for a reason to jump all over somebody — while dragging along their own history of only such types of posts.

And all too typical of TOTV these days. . .“Ah, look at all the ‘angry’ people. Where do they all come from?”

You didn't respond to my question, however: your reason for it. Hey, how about those guys who were filming in front of the school on Rolling Acres? They were on public property but still got arrested.
Tell that to Google Streets.

This house recently sold for $2.1 million and has a gorgeous backyard. Right on the green on Palmer Legends and has a view across the lake to Lake Sumter Square.

Boomer - just as a matter of record: I was responding directly to the OP's presentation of a house and suggesting that it's the prettiest in the Villages. I have nothing nasty to say about it, because it's just totally not impressive to me. It's not the prettiest, it's not the ugliest. It's not impressive enough to even make the top 100 on either end of the scale. It's just a generic house in a generic neighborhood. It's a Stepford house. Or maybe a Truman house. Vanilla.
