Could someone please explain to me why people feel compelled to put their trash and recycling out BEFORE NOON on the eve of pick up day. It looks so lovely to see their trash out there baking in the sun on a Sunday afternoon. NOT!!

we do if we are leaving to go out of town...but usually late the night before trash pickup

Might be folks who rent or are here just for the weekend. When we're going to be gone and miss the pick-up we have a neighbor set ours out for us.

Not only is it baking in the sun when they do this BUT "critters" can come and dig in it as well.

If going away - sure you'd out it out early. But, all the time is ugly. You're right about critters. Hadn't gone that far in thinking about it.

In yesterday's Daily Sun (09-21-13) there was a big article on the front page of the Lifestyle Section. It was about Alzheimer's Disease and it stated that by age 65, about 1 out of 8 people have Alzheimer's. Many at that age may be newly diagnosed or not yet diagnosed. By age 85, half of all seniors have Alzheimer's. And there are other forms of dementia too.

So here's what may be happening in some cases. Either they have forgotten what day it gets picked up, or they know but have to put the garbage out when they first think about it, lest they forget if they put it off 'til later.

Another question.....if a neighbor asked you or any one of you to take their trash bag and then put it out t the appropriate tme, would you?

I am not sure if I am "any one of you", but it is a common occurrence on our street. We also pick up neighbors' newspapers and deposit them at their front doors or hold them for their return. The same goes for POA bulletins, lawn treatment signs, etc.

I can only think of three reasons. Ignorance, arrogance, or necessity.

I've seen it done regularly by a couple of neighbors and they surely don't have Alzheimers.

They seem to be of the rigid, inflexible type of people who think early mornings are the only time appropriate for doing work and chores (and all other activities).

I think they go to bed by 7:00 p.m., too.

Yes I would and have and they have also done the same for me.

We also do the same for our neighbor when they make one of their visits to their home here.

I figured that all of us would extend that kindness to their neighbors. Have actually had some take the trash bags in till closer to pick up time for neighbors who have left early and not asked to have the trash taken care of.
