Hi everyone... I love to work out. I have been involved in many of the programs offered by The Villages and really enjoy them. I supliment that with at home workouts. Right now I'm doing Beachbody's Focus T25!
I'm trying to lose some of the weight I gained just before I retired. So far down 14 pounds. What do you do to keep fit? That's me on the right. ![]()

CrossFit is a great workout!! There is now a CrossFit "Box" right here in Lady Lake. Very strenuous and intense workout, but scaled for age, exercise experience, etc. Check it out on their website-- at Lady Lake CrossFit.

Eat several small meals a day, as it help you to lose weight. Eat just enough, to get to your next meal. It givs your body a chance to burn off some calories, and it takes a half hour for your brain to signal your body that you are full.
I also worked out, at least three times a week at MVP. I walk ten minutes to warm-up, lift weights, as much as my body will allow me to, and 45 minutes on the cross trainer, that's 5 miles. Lifting weights helps a lot, as you burn calories after you finish lifting, for the rest of the day. When you do aerobics, as soon as you step off the treadmill, that's all the calories your going to burn, period. Push-ways from the dinner table,is the best exercise in the world. ![]() Exercising, without having control, of how much you eat, is pure folly. IMHO Look at desserts as they are poison, also will help. Eating real food, will help as oppossed to processed foods, in controlled portions. The absolute key is, "controlled portions". That's why "Lean Cuisine" ars so small, but they are processed foods. Another trick is to eat off of smaller plates as the food will look larger. The reason why so many people overeat is, because when one is a small child, their mother's put too much food on their plate, and psychologically, one is conditioned to look at the amount of food on their palte and thinks, "this is what it's going to take to fill me up. Now, don't all you mother's get mad at me, as this was in a book written by a doctor, and given to my niece as she was 135 lbs, at 8 years old. She is now thin and never had a eating problem, after she lost all the weight needed. Don't think in terms of diet, but in a lifestyle change. Diets, are doomed to fail. One needs to assess what is required to make a permanet change, going forward. you will be surprised at how much you lose your craving for foods that are not good for you, when you start eating healthy. Just one person's viewpoint, as I have lost a lot of weight in my lifetime, but only kept it off, when I started eating several small meals a day. ![]() Again, portion control and lifestyle change is the keys. I just fell off my soapbox, and can't get up. HELP!!! LOL

I was really surprised after moving here that I had gained weight, and more importantly I've gained an inch all over. It seemed someone was always bringing sweet treats to my door for me to enjoy. I can't resist sweets, so I've gained weight. I'm doing Leslie Sansone's Walk at home videos, I walk outside when the weather is good, now and then I play some pickleball. I tried Zumba a few times and can't quite get into the music. I think the most important part of losing weight is diet, healthier eating and portion control. It's so hard to do. Let's hope we all can report how well we are doing 6 months from now. Also, having a friend exercise with you makes it more fun.

So now you know the REAL reason why I am in TV for only a week a month!!! The secret is out.....it's because IT'S A FUN AND FATTENING WEEK. So it is back to Swimdawg North for a few weeks to work those pounds off. Nothing worse than a 6' tall gal that is 6' wide. Horrors!!!!

Lots of good stuff here...
I think we can agree that diets don't work. "There are more than 76,000 diet books on Amazon- no less than 82 of those are new ones coming out before the end of January- many of which promise that losing wight will be that easy (swear!). " Fitness January 2014 For me... I have learned to eat when I'm hungry and stop when I'm full. Interesting. When I stopped eating by the clock and waited for the hunger, I ate less. I drink more water. I found that often times, I confuse thirst for hunger. I agree with Joe.... I stopped the "fake" food and eat more real food. I don't go for the "fat free" food, which has more sugar. I love the weights! But that's nothing new for me. And, I like cardio for my heart. I have programs now that mix it up... Some weights, some stretch and some cardio! I, like Happinow, gained after I got here. I thought it would be the opposite. I stopped the driveway parties and don't drink unless it's a special occasion. I still go out to eat, but I'm making better food choices. I've cut out most of the meat and switched to a lot of fish. *baby steps* I still eat dessert, but it's sharing with someone and not eating the whole thing. When I was younger, I would think that as I got older, I would forget about it. Well... I'm not sure what that magic age is.... I certainly haven't hit it yet. I like working out at home. I know The Villages has great programs. But sometimes they are so full and I'm not always ready when they start. I find I do better when I work out at night. I think I might try the Zumba thing... Looks like fun! I have to work out every day... It has to be a habit for me. Love the posts...

I am in the best shape ever after having moved here six years ago. I've dropped both weight and dress sizes and am in size 4 now. When I first moved here I gained about 20 pounds and felt miserable. Back home I was a HS X Country Coach for nine years and have to say I'm still in better shape now than then even though I ran with the team everyday.
I run upwards to 20 miles a week competing in road races. I came in second female overall in the last Village race and usually win my age. I lift free weights every other day and do ab work outs a few times a week. I also line dance as much as I can. I can't keep weight on right now. I can pretty much eat what I want but try to eat healthy. I've never been on a diet. If I was going to attribute anything to my success I would say it would be mixing cardio with strength training. I've never really done that before. Back home it was pushing the cardio and no strength training to speak of. The strength training has made a world of difference and has been a very welcome addition to my running workouts. |
