10 to 15 MPH over the speed limit and that’s supposed to be acceptable? No wonder the police are spending valuable resources to keep our streets safe and enforce laws .

Obey the speed limit you will not have a problem…….

I have NO ISSUES with law enforcement doing traffic stops for what is considered "speeding" However....I have lived in Florida for 37 years now with 9 in the villages and the issue I have a problem with is the way the traffic engineers set the speed limits on some of the roads. Not just in the Villages but in general across our fair state. Some of the speed limits are way to conservative and low. They impede traffic and actually set up unsafe conditions by encouraging speeding. Bless the police for enforcement for our safety but lets question how some of these "limits" are placed on roadways. What is the algorithm used to determine speed limits? Lets' explore the root cause of the issue.

Once again, I am not condoning unsafe driving, but driving a few miles over the speed limit by a competent healthy driver is much safer than an old lady with pre-dementia, bad vision, slow reflexes and who drives a 1990 beat-up Chevy without tread on their tires.

There are many bad drivers throughout The Villages who drive both regular vehicles and golf carts that should not be on our shared roadways. If we all are so concerned about driving safely, then actual mandated driving test should be state mandated to those of us over a certain age limit or those of us deemed unfit to drive by their physician or close family member.

Unfortunately as we all get older, our driving skills begin to deteriorate and there are many older Villagers who should not be driving and I'd rather be driving next to a competent speeding driver than next to someone who can barely breath and see!

Why do you see this as an either/or situation?

Neither is safe (safer is not the same as safe) and both need to be discouraged.

Default Speed traps! Not

As others have stated, it’s not unusual to have car’s going 50+ mph on TV streets, especially Morris. While on the District radio, I hear about several accidents where drivers have damaged or destroyed round about’s. Generally speed enforcement are set up where accidents have occurred due to excess speeding!

Where does it say you can drive drunk? Do not speed. Do not drive drunk. Speeding is illegal. Glad they are paying attention to this issue.

You are 63. I read your other posts. One day you WILL be an 81 year old woman, like me. (Who does not drive because she had a heart episode that scared the misplaced eyebrows off her) No one said I couldn't.

My husband is still an excellent driver at 80.

Our car is not a beat up Chevy with bald tires. It is kept in excellent repair. My husband trims ALL of the bushes and trees around our lot and replaces sprinkler heads. I am so grateful for his good health.

I want you to tell me how you feel about driving in twelve years.

If he carries on speeding he may not last that long.

I just hope he doesn't take an innocent life along the way.

Some speed enforcement areas are put in place at the behest of the residents of an area because they believe they are in danger since their reflexes and reaction time are considerably slower than 20 years ago. "trap" is usually a term reserved to those who just don't like being told what to do.

As to the "some poor guy" comment...for all it's known is he was weaving all over the place or had an expired plate/license. Assuming someone fell into a "trap" means that the city/county intentionally sets up an area to squeeze $$$ to line their coffers.

Can I assume some people just don't like rules when they feel it may impact "their own" life?

"speed traps" are usually put in place where: a)there has been known excessive speeding(and that would usually be 1 to 5 mph over the limit for a "trap"...not 10 to 20...agreed to nationally as too much.
Sort of like that Vaccine Trap. Lol
