Default Thanks for the reminder!

Thanks for the reminder! We all get caught every so often, but your reminder helps to keep this issue front and center.

I disagree on your first comment but that's for another time. The second one is just wrong. So what you are inferring is that a non-LSV can cross Morse or B.V. at the circles and avoid the tunnels. Read the law again. We had a Sumter County Lieutenant at our Cart Club meeting and he shot down that misinterpretation of the law I believe you are referring to. It refers to a community (or a golf course) that is split by a road that is 35mph and the only way to the other side would be to cross and it must be at a controlled intersection. That rule can be overridden by local statutes. NON-LSV Golf carts can drive on roads that are 30mph or less at 20mph.

Sorry but there is a quota. I know several cops that will admit that.

Default Fighting the ticket

I have never had to actually pay the ticket. Go to court, the cop doesn't show up, they don't send lawyers for this stuff, the judge nolles the case and I go home with no ticket, no fine, no points, and no notification to the DMV that a ticket was ever issued. I also don't have to actually testify or make a statement. It's all done usually before they even call your name to enter the courtroom - the clerk comes out and just tells you to go home.
This is true. I was in court with my son when he was sixteen for speeding. The officer was not there so after a stern comment from the judge the ticket was dismissed. Unfortunately this is not always good. There was a woman there that when they looked at her record it was clean and they just told her to be more careful and dismissed her ticket. However my concern there is she was speeding in a school zone. How many times has this happened to her before and it’s not on her record. These tickets should be turned into a formal warning and be on her record. Just my opinion

Seems like a lot of people here want to make their own rules. If you don't like the rules take the proper action to get them changed - don't violate them!

Use cruise control if you are not disciplined enough to follow the rules. The narrow streets in the Villages are often crowded with bikers and dog walkers. The rules are made for a reason - follow them!

We all drift up once in a while !! Even the pious posters on this site. 6 miles above the speed limit is not much and with a clean driving record, why not issue a warning????? That is what the worlds friendliest community should have done !!!

Most speeders I see in TV are younger folk using our main roads--Buena Vista and Morse. Those two roads should have the concentration of law enforcement. Issuing a ticket for 6 miles over in a 25 mile zone is ridiculous. There should be better things for law enforcement to do with their time--like fight crime or get a donut.
I agree. a ticket for 6 MPH over the speed limit is a joke.

Everyone deserves one warning if nothing else it is a wakeup call.

Got a verbal warning several years ago while driving on Buena Vista. Since then I always set my cruise control while driving in TV, at or maybe one mph over posted limit. No further problem except sometimes a line of vehicles building behind me.

I'll bet it wasn't "the worlds friendliest community" that wrote the ticket. I'll also bet you would not like it if you lived on that street. Is there such a thing as breaking the law just a little? It's against the law to assault someone but can I just slap them a little til they wake up and follow the rules? And remember 6 over 25 mph is almost 25%..... kind of like 75 in a 60 mph zone.

Picture this ...... 70 years old and never got a ticket!

People need to stop blaming others. And stop too.

Go on a highway where speed limit is 65. Vast majority of people will either go 70 or set cruise control for 70.

Have spoken to several officers about this and most say that unless you are going 7 or more over the speed limit they will let you pass.

Exception would be in inclement weather.

Vast majority? What fantasy world is that in? Drive 70 on the FL Tpke or on US75 and it's like you're walking. I've on occasion driven 75/80 in the right lane on the FL tpke because I'm moving with traffic and people are passing in the other lanes and are out of site in seconds. Trucks as well. Many cars must be going close to 100 and trucks easily near 80. You're from NYC. How many people drive 70 on the 65mph Rt 95 (aka NJ Tpke)? Probably more than on the FL TPKE but not a lot. I'm sure there are those who do lock in at +5MPH but not a whole lot. Speed limits on FL Tpke or US75 are rarely enforced it seems. NOT SAYING IT'S RIGHT, just that it happens quite often.
