Sounds to me like the same function, just enforced. Exceeding the maximum speed on a golf cart is already a violation. Exceeding the speed limit is another violation. These are traffic violations, worthy of nothing more than a ticket. But if they're not enforced, there's no point in them existing.

I'm all for more efficient enforcement. Can't catch everyone - but for instance today -

I was coming past the Boone Gate on Paradise on my way to the golf cart bridge from my end of the neighborhood. I was behind three other golf carts. The speed limit after the intersection is posted as 15mph. We were all going around 17-18mph. And the guy directly in front of me shifted over to the other side of the road and passed the other TWO golf carts - very obviously going well past 25mph.

If there had been a police car at the fire department, the postal parking lot, or the rec center parking lot, they could've pulled that guy over and given him a ticket for a few different violations.

But there is never a police car at these locations, unless they're called to handle an existing problem.

So you are proposing there should be an officer parked at every fire station, every postal station, and every rec center to ticket vehicles exceeding the speed limit? How many additional cars would that be and who is going to pay for them?

Also, should they ticket people going 3mph over the posted limit or only the "real" speeders?

I'm surprised you didn't mention how much damage was done (other than your feelings) or how bad the injuries were.

People are losing their minds. Would be laughable if not dangerous and scary. Sane people have to walk away in case the moron goes full throttle. It’s everywhere - not just TV. Are we living in The Matrix?

Your position is fine. It sounded to me like the other poster was talking about law enforcement inspecting "all" golf carts. Let's see---60,000 carts in TV alone---what would that cost in time and $$$. Besides, one could jack up the speed, turn it back down for "inspection" then jack it back up---from what I understand, all it takes is a zip tie on the governor. Unless they schedule and co-ordinate 60,000 unannounced inspections---good luck with that.......

First residents who own their property and go north for a few months (usually in summer)are Sunbirds not Snowbirds. Second, we are a community of 140,000 residents. With that number expect a small number of “weird” people. We have a wonderful lifestyle here in The Villages. We don’t need a plate on are golf carts, driver license to drive a golf cart, more police on every corner or tickets for parking or driving over a white line. None of which would make a difference but would add to our monthly costs and frustration. Careful what you wish for because it could become a self fulfilling prophecy.

Some snowbirds live here permanently and vacation up North for 3-4 Months. I've lived here for 18 years and the permanent residents drive the same way. Those people need classes in etiquette, driving and anger management.

No I'm suggesting that they SOMETIMES make an attempt at enforcing the rules. Going 2-3 miles over the speed limit, while technically a violation, isn't ticket-worthy.

But a golf cart that isn't registered or plated as an LSV, going almost double the posted speed limit to cross into the wrong lane to pass two vehicles which are -not- going "too slow" or trying to turn (or otherwise warranting someone passing them) - is probably ticket-worthy.

I have never seen a police car pull over a golf cart in the 3 years I've been living here, or in the few times I visited in previous years before I lived here.

I've seen - in the three years I've lived here - a police car sitting on the side of the road (presumably waiting for potential violations) exactly five times, two of which were on El Camino Real near the Savannah Center. Twice on Paradise next to the Boone Gate. In three years.

I'm not expecting to see them every day. Or even necessarily every week. But once a month might be a pretty significant improvement.

I have been saying this to myself since getting on message boards around 2002. Also applies to real life. I had some schmuck give me a finger when I was behind him at a Villages' gate yesterday. Maybe he is upset with NOTHING. And have had others give me a thumbed nose or chin flick the last few months. And much worse on other places online.
It is really troubling what is happening to people's (minds) in regard to attitude and anger; deep DEEP anger. I accepted it was partially the result of the virus, but the acceleration of the anger and violence, everywhere, it mystifying and frightening. In how many cities were there police shot THIS WEEK ? I believe total was three incidents of police being shot this week, in one week, and on the heels of the school shooting, and the killing of the tech executive in San Fran for a meeting. The woman in her golf cart hit by a truck this week, the folks who reported nasty gestures and incidents on this board, and the killing of 3 young ones in Ocala by 3 others, a 12 year old. Riley Gains, the swimmer, nearly killed by trans rights activists for ...... giving a speech, not for attacking trans people, not for violently rioting or hurting people, but giving a speech on HER view of the issue of trans athletes competing as women, a speech she was invited to give. Then a week ago, a distinguished judge, again, INVITED to speech, but attacked for his opinion of an issue. Saw this beginning years ago in the villages, used to be, Democrats and Republicans had clubs here, displayed signs of their preferred candidates, had parades, then turned in to physical attacks, vandalism of people's yards, autos, and golf carts. Tonight, the eve on Easter, more violent incidents at public places like a mall in Delaware, 4 shot in Huston ! Really, there IS something "wrong" in our society. There is an on line "newspaper" that reports villages news, accidents, vandalism, incidents of domestic violence, child pornography criminals in the Villages, things the Happy Daily would not report. That's fine, "news" papers actually have a moral obligation to report the news, so they report what is on the police blotter. But if you read the "comments" people from the area write, it's actually horrifying. The HATE for villages residents, the pervasive hate for seniors, comments that the Villages is a haven for "retards and drunks" as one writer put it, makes you wonder just what is causing all this seething hate always barely under the surface ! Why ? ? Most, MOST people living here, and in the surrounding senior areas, are involved in at least one weekly volunteer endeavor to help make the surrounding area better ! From tutoring children, to acting as guardians for children with no one to represent them in court/custody issues, to our favorite activity, building homes for those in need with Habitat. So many villagers works in soup kitchens, even volunteering on holidays, and they help in local schools, make sure the "children of the Ocala National Forest" have needed articles, they knit an crochet for hospital and nursing home forgotten patients, it would take all night to list what goes on here in a WEEK, yet, the hate for this community, based on a TINY few who say things like the people from surrounding towns should not be allowed in our gates, or allowed to shop in "OUR" stores ! ! ? ? Breeds deep hate and very deep resentment ! And why, for no purpose at all. We have many religions here, is that what they all teach ? Exclusive stores, streets, even music that should not be heard by others, street parades and festivals ONLY for the residents ? Maybe so, maybe that IS today's world. Happy Easter if that even has any meaning these days ?

You are a much bigger problem than the driver of the golf cart but if willing to pay 5 times my taxes to keep me away then send me $27,500 and we will see what we can do plus $2400 for the amenities fee.

Of course I can see how you feel I am not a true Villager. As for your last comment, have you been a bigot your entire life.

I continued on my journey to have the guy follow me for about two miles (roughly 9 minutes). Intimidating me? In Florida, that’s “Road Rage.”

Finally he passed, yelling something out the side of his golf cart (incomprehensible over the roar of his englne), but then after his one-finger salute out the back, I knew it was not an apology. Then noticed he was wearing headphones (another FL illegal).

This kind of behavior is way too common in The Villages, but this was the worst yet. Impatient golfers driving like maniacs way over the 20mph speed limit going to and from courses. Wreckless drunks seeing how close they can come to cyclists and walkers after happy hour at the clubs and music venues. Funny? not
(another FL law: minimum 3-feet of clearance between vehicle and cyclists and pedestrials - in most states it is 5 feet)

I feel, in the least, there should be identification on golf carts. Being anonymous brings out the worst in people with issues.
Very true. Good idea but it'll never happen.
