I wrote them a letter (no email-text) and told them, We have a great place here, please do not cross highway 27 or build Spanish Springs. We don’t need those kind of people here.”

Honestly, the seniors who want to carry guns likely haven’t waited till a law was passed. They are and will already be carrying them as they please. It’s kind of like not caring what others think or feel. What can really be done to them either way?

Finally he passed, yelling something out the side of his golf cart (incomprehensible over the roar of his englne), but then after his one-finger salute out the back, I knew it was not an apology. Then noticed he was wearing headphones (another FL illegal).

This kind of behavior is way too common in The Villages, but this was the worst yet. Impatient golfers driving like maniacs way over the 20mph speed limit going to and from courses. Wreckless drunks seeing how close they can come to cyclists and walkers after happy hour at the clubs and music venues. Funny? not
(another FL law: minimum 3-feet of clearance between vehicle and cyclists and pedestrials - most states are 5)

I think in the least there should be identification on golf carts. Being anonymous brings out the worst in people with issues.
There will never be an identification system for golf carts. Being anonymous means endangering others with no guilt and risk of being responsible. Walking, bicycling, and even carting on the cart paths means doing so at you own risk. That's all you can do.

Drove out today…golf carts filled with breeders grandkids..some even driving. Go to DisneyWorld already!!!
Me too!!!! Would do a jig to see them all go away!

My experience has been most people around here are very pleasant. Wave when you walk past them on the walking paths, nice conversation when you pick up the mail, and if they pass you on their golf cart that exceeds 20 mph (the Florida limit) they don't yell or scowl as they pass.

That said, there are some jerks, and I've ran into them. They can usually be spotted by their behavior and permanent scowl and avoided but not always.

Best to not respond to their anger. It won't change them, but will endanger you.

Well you know as of July 1st FL will become a Constitutional carry state, meaning if you are not a felon or would otherwise qualify for a gun permit you will no longer need a permit to carry a concealed weapon. Sooooo you might want to think twice about going off on or losing your temper with anyone, especially if they already seem a little off center. Happy motoring.

I agree. It's not "way too common in The Villages".

I hear a stories on here about isolated incidents and conditions and people talk about how widespread a problem is.

I find the vast, vast majority of people in The Villages to be sensible and reasonable. yes, some of them have their golf carts adjusted to go a bit faster than normal(mine came from the factory going 21-22 mph) but they are usually patient and wait to pass slower vehicles.

I often read about horribly dangerous conditions in some areas but when I see them I think that the problem has been greatly exaggerated.

I think some people just look for and want to believe the worst of everything.

Sorry, but this is a great place where people are very nice.

I have a different take on this, you see when I was learning to drive the golf cart I went to the post office (it was close by and I could make it) in the early morning to avoid traffic and practiced very tight circles and eights to get to know the cart. I did roll up all the sumbrella stuff so I could see in every direction. I don’t know why he had headphones unless he was listening to instructions. Early morning seems to be a favorite time of bike riders also. There is a possibility that he was startled by your unexpected presence. When you are learning you are concentrating on the vehicle, his startling may have been the reason for his unacceptable behavior.

You must be a very kind person. Generous of soul and seeking reasons to absolve poor behavior. You seek the best in others.

The guy in the cart had ear buds and was purposely unaware of his surroundings and endangering others.

The Police should pick a top speed for golf carts (like 25) and inspect and ticket ANY and ALL golf carts that have the capacity to go faster than the AGREED ON speed limit. They all need to have the SAME max speed for safety's sake.

I feel that during and after the Pandemic that automobile drivers began driving too fast and became less courteous. It seemed like the Covid virus brought out impatience and general BAD behavior in many people here in TV Land.
