Cool

Hi: I am very nervous when trying to exit the Caroline village gate. I assumed you stay on the outside (right lane) but now I am to believe it is the inside lane that turns in???

Everyone seems to have completely disregarded GMoney's account of a real-life situation and police investigation that had 2 state law-enforcement agencies confused as to what the lanes mean in a roundabout. It they can't agree, how can we? That's why this topic always becomes the "never-ending thread"

Default Strrangest roundabout

Lived in the UK for several years and the strangest round about you will ever see is there. It is in the town of Swindow and has mini round abouts within the main one. The lines in the Villages round abouts are the problems as far as I see it. Get rid of the lines get rid of the confusion over what the lines mean. Once you are in you are in. The UK has no problems with these we should not. A web page for the strange one is below. I have also driven the one in Paris,that was fun.

Default Roundabout Incident

Good Grief Quill! How does a newbie find the way out?! And we are talking about a 2 lane or 1 lane arrangement in TV? I just do my best to enter when there is no one in the roundabout and stay clear of those who enter after me. Took me a few days to figure out the lines, but the rules that have been posted now really make much more sense. Can hardly wait to get back to TV in April.

There's no confusion as to what to do at a red light. No differences in rules from Massachusetts to Florida.

Red = Stop

Green = Go
And all that sitting still with motors running and burning up gasoline. Don't make sense to me.
Also the cost of putting up cameras to catch the red light runners.

I agree with one exception:

Red = Stop
Green = Go
Roundabout = always Go

Fact is, roundabouts make traffic flow smoother. Even with all the problems discussed in the many threads, on this topic, I suspect no one would want the roundabouts removed for traffic signals.

Just my thought....

Roundabouts would work if everyone, without exception, knew and followed the rules, but that will never happen. There are too many visitors and people living here that do not know, or follow, the rules.

It would help if the lane markings were right.

When going south on Morse at the Caroline gate circle, if you are continuing south on Morse, you may go in the right or left lane. If turning right onto Stillwater, use the right lane. If going in the Caroline gate, use the left lane and after going half way aroung the circle, cross over into the right lane to exit at the Caroline resident gate (of course you always have to watch for the uninformed who go completely around the circle in the right lane illegally). I always think of the two lane circles as approaching a stop sign intersection. If I was making a left hand turn, I would NEVER make it from the right lane. A circle intersection is no different.

Default roundabouts

Never have a problem in roundabouts. Just go. Stay away from other cars. Its not like we are in them for eight hours or more. Stop complaining and move on.

I wonder how many fender-benders they have in a year at that "mega" roundabout? The video cracked me up. I can see getting into that maze and never coming out alive. Ha,ha!

if you pay attention there is no problem. The problem is that most people come to a complete stop entering the round-a-bout and sit there looking for cars when there are none. Or they stop and see a car coming and the car is turning and they still sit there and look. That is when you get backed up traffic at the circles. If one will proceed with caution and enter the circle then exit all would flow real good.

Default Roundabouts

I don't understand why everyone is bitching about the roundabouts in the Villages, its a law in Florida and if you are from Massachusetts or any other state you have to obey the laws of that state. If you don't like those laws you can leave anytime you wish. There are reason they make laws that sometimes I don't agree with but I still obey them. This is a retirement community and all you have to do is lay back and smell the roses. The problem with some people they always want to fight the system or there not happy. Lets chill out obey the laws and have a beer and move on to things that are more important.

What more could possibly be said about roundabouts? You have wrapped it all up.....I could not agree more.

what is it with drivers in the villages......roundabouts are everywhere in the uk, we seem to cope well with them.......everytime I visit and drive in the villages its crazy.....(funny) but dangerous, because I use them all of the time back home the driving I see around these things is just amazing, I'm sure my 4 year old daughter could do better !!.....the correct way of driving around roundabouts will never work in the villages....(too many bad drivers), just adopt the following 1: Give way to cars to your left 2: Stay in the outside lane! 3: Keep your eyes open, fingers crossed and expect the worse!
