Keys probably were in cart... many leave their keys in the cart when the cart is in the garage. It's pretty dark at 5:30 and leaving the garage door open was out of the norm...it is generally shut. Once a cart is pushed out of the garage, (no back up beeper sounds were heard), and it's on the street, just start it up and drive away!

This had to be an opportunity event. We have lots of walkers in our area, but maybe not in the still dark hours of early morning.

This is very sad. I guess you can never be too secure with you belongings. Now I'm beginning to worry about exercising outdoors early in the morning by myself...walking, jogging.

I hate hearing stuff like this.... hope we find out some explanaition other then theft, but I doubt it. We often have the garage door open when we are home. Jeeeeeeez Loueeeeeeeez!

very good advice....................i don't have one but i put in a new ignition switch with unique key that i bought at an automotive store and put it in myself..........

pooh - what a terrible thing to happen! am so sorry to hear the news. that said, is the caroline gate part of the project that is using cameras that capture vehicles at the gate? if so, perhaps some info could be gleaned from the pictures?

Unfortunately, golf carts don't go through most gates. So sorry to hear about this.

This is my understanding as well, at least as it relates to the newer Yamaha carts.

I've had the idea in the back of my mind to do the 'hidden kill switch' thing as well. This thread provides some motivation!!

We changed keys from the universal ones and installed hidden kill switches. It is a good step for sure. In the end if they want it they release the brake and take it away. For all we know in this case the rolled it out of the driveway and onto a truck. So brazen it really makes me angry this happened at someone's home....

Maybe I will start another thread in legal, but it would not be hard to hook the aluminum frame up to 120v. Do not forget to put a sign on the cart to be careful so no one gets hurt

I do not own a cart yet so I have never purchased golf cart insurance. Does insurance cover theft with full replacement value?

The person that stole the cart must have known the owners were right there in the house and might come out any moment. How brazen and heedless. I can only think it was someone drugged and/or desperate.

I've often thought how silly to take the keys out of the car in the closed garage. Then I think No, how silly not to. Anyway, my car shrieks at me if I open the door to get out and the keys are still in the ignition. It shrieks "Silly you!! You're forgetting something!!"
