Same as it ever was...
Seriously? Were the original TV settlers told expansion would not go south of 466? Anyone here an original settler?

Great. You are exactly the person who can answer my question in my previous post. Were you told that there will be no expansion of The Villages beyond your intimate neighborhood?

We were once seasonal owners of a villa before hubby retired. If what you say is true, luckily we were welcomed to our villa neighborhood with open arms. Everyone was very friendly and we were included in gatherings. I was "sold" on living in the villages long before hubby retired. I love it here.

Main reason being the homes are too near the turnpike and the ghastly electric towers with NO DISCOUNT offered on the prices of the homes. I was told the homes are priced on the cost of materials and the square footage and no reason for a DISCOUNT because homes were selling out quickly.

Again, glad you love your homes and hope to be down there one day myself, but I do know it is going to be MORE EXPENSIVE than when I purchased my home in the North.
And your home in the North is now MORE EXPENSIVE than when you purchased it.

Believe me, I’m sure those of us who chose to explore new worlds south of 44 are pleased to hear you have zero interest in joining in on the fun.

I am certainly not bashing that area, I realize there are great reasons that people choose to live there and many, if not most, love it. I think I represent a lot of people who would never consider moving south of 44, not out of a dislike or hate for that area, but just because we find nothing about that area that offers anything that appeals to us that we can’t access north. Please know, I’m not a hater of the new areas, just someone who is very fond of the areas north and with zero interest in the areas south. I presume there are some who feel the same as us, just as I am sure there are others who strongly disagree. Let’s hear it.

At one point they said the Villages would stop at 44. However when the developer realized they could buy a lot more land and sell many thousand more homes they realized they had a great thing going and continued.

Would you think other businesses would not have done the same thing?

The OP has been vilified for a simple post.
Anyone with a modicum of sense could see see it was not trolling.
Badly worded? Maybe.
OP has been around for years, a regular non controversial poster, and does not deserve the crap and innuendo being thrown at him/her.
So many these days just can't wait to be offended.
Shame on the lot of you.

So, the purpose of this post is to share your feeling that south of 44 doesn’t exist. How kind!

Badly worded or well written?

To me, it was possible to give the OP the benefit of a doubt until the last line:
I presume there are some who feel the same as us, just as I am sure there are others who strongly disagree. Let’s hear it.
Seems a lot like tossing out a controversial statement then challenging others to comment. Intentional and trolling.

My first thought was that I could agree that I can't think of anything south of 44 that I don't have where I am now. Then I thought of how often my wife and/or I travel south to get to events at the rec centers, meet with people, eat at the different restaurants, enjoy Edna's or Sawgrass, or simply go for a drive.

Everything I need was in my hometown that I left almost 40 years ago. Everything I need was in the town I moved from three years ago. Everything I need is between my house and Grand Traverse plaza. But it sure is nice to have the variety of the rest of the area including south of 44 and outside the bubble.

Animosity?

I haven't seen it... Our neighbors welcome us back with open arms. I slide right back into the two golf groups, as does my wife. They want to know what we've been up to while we were away... She has her Mah Jong and golf groups that call to find out when we're coming back...

It's like we never left...

We're having a big Thanksgiving dinner at our home in MD this year. We're having about a dozen "Villagers" drive up and join us...

It's going to be insane, but SWMBO lives for that!
