I never drive anywhere in The Villages without seeing speeding golf carts, golf carts running stop signs, etc. Just recently I saw a golf cart pull in front of a car so close that the driver of the car had to slam on his brakes and the golf cart driver gave the car driver a salute - not one of kindness! I've said for years that I think golf carts should be licensed and every driver should have to take a drivers course. Just sayin.............

Yes, O'dell Circle is only one place where I get passed when I'm going the speed limit of 20 mph. I've only seen one person EVER in the 6 yrs. that I've lived here that's gotten pulled over & that was on O'dell Circle. Always makes me wonder why people are in such a big hurry to get somewhere, what's wrong with leaving a little early to get where you're going. I agree with someone else's complaint, some cart drivers don't stop at stop signs, they fly right through them then throw their hands up or give you a dirty look or curse at you even when you stop & they haven't even gotten to the stop sign to fly right on through it. There's just a lot of rude people that do these kind of things. Maybe it's because that's the way people treated them where they come from. As far as speeding, if the police aren't going to enforce the speed limits on carts, take your chances & go as fast as you can because so far I think go as fast as you can because your odds are in favor of the speeder that they won't got pulled over. Besides when I take my cart to the Yamaha dealership they always have me sign a waiver to check my cart to see how fast it runs & everytime I get it back it never, ever runs faster than 18mph.

I guess I’m just extremely lucky.
I’ve been piloting a car, a cart, and a bicycle in TV for about four years now, and I’ve seen maybe two or three instances where I thought a cart driver did something that might be considered dangerously reckless. |

You want a pet peave: people walking their dogs in the marked cart lane with a sidewalk directly across the street - that is much more irritating and dangerous or people walking two abreast around a curve on the rec path - talk about dangerous. Some golf cart speeding ...eh..🙄. Even if identified ... what are going to do run em down and write a ticket. I think not. |

Wow! This thread is giving the dog poop threads a run for the money. The Villages gives people the opportunity to do so many things and time is short with the age of most people so I would guess that people are speeding to get to their next activity.
Lighten up. I don't remember the news of anyone getting killed because of a cart going too fast; maybe driving stupid or driving drunk but not from speeding. I wrote many thousands of tickets during my career; rarely issued one less than 10mph over unless other infractions occurred.

I'm much more concerned about elderly people that should;t be driving at all.
I once helped a lady who I thought had fallen down in her driveway. she was trying to plug her charger in. She explained to me that she is legally blind and they won't let her drive a car so her only alternative is to drive a golf cart. I was driving on the path beside Paradise Lake a few weeks ago and a woman in a car was heading directly at me in the opposite direction. She swerved to miss me, literally by inches, at the very last second. Another time I was driving in my cart and a guy came to a full and complete stop at a stop sign. Then he pulled out in front of me and I had to slam on my brakes so hard that I skidded and my tires screeched. A cart going 22 or 25 or even 30 down a road or in cart lane is nowhere near top of the list that we have with problem drivers in this community. Afew MPH over the limit not usually a big problem.

I just would like to ask those who slow down, however to a non-passable speed, when I am behind them (or others) to maybe speed up or let me pass. Thank you.
