As a seasonal visitor from Scotland, I used my EC Blue Badge for handicapped parking but received a police warning that it was not legal in Florida. I now apply and receive one each time I return at a cost (which I can't recall), but at least it makes life a bit easier.

I'm sorry someone took your card
Could it might have blown away?
My son has a handicap card
To look at him ,you might not think he needs one
But he does, short distances no problem
Long distances not so much
Judge not, lest you be judged

Very sorry your card was taken and hope they really need it real soon.

Worst case I know of. A doctor I know who had a heart attack and issues and got a handicap card for his car and parks in the handicap spots at my golf club in Northern VA. Actually needed and used as should be for a couple years. Well he still has the card, still uses it, but now walks 18 holes carrying his bag. I give him a really hard time every time I see him. To the point he avoids me. He gave me some lame excuse the first couple times, but it is still BS. If he can walk 18 holes of golf, he can walk in from the parking lot. I have even tried to report him to the DOT of VA, even told him I would, but they were not interested.

I believe one of the problems with the system is that people get one for a valid reason and than just keep using it even if the required reason no longer applies.

[QUOTE=l2ridehd;908813]My husbands disabled placard was stolen when we lived in NJ. It should be reported the the local police and if possible supply them with the placard number.

Does anyone know if it is ok to copy the tags if you already have one?
Hubs has some kind of a registration card that was issued when his placard was issued, so he can verify that the tag is his. It probably is illegal to duplicate it, but neither of us drives in a way as to encourage an officer to stop us.

Several years ago, my mother had a handicap parking "hangtag" for her car's rear view mirror. She also had a card for her wallet showing she was the owner of that tag. The tag could not be copied but could be moved to whatever car she was driving or riding in.

The hangtag was not to be kept on the rear view mirror when driving but only when the car was parked.

That is the way it still works.

I think it's despicable when someone steals "anything"...but is really a low-life to steal these tags.

As to the comments re: folks who don't look like they "need" these..please don't judge whether or not. I happen to have rheumatoid arthritis which affects my hips, legs, feet and ankles. On bad days I can't walk long distances due to the indescribable pain. To look at me I probably appear healthy but believe me this is a disease noone would ask for. I know there are many others with health issues that could be similar.

Why can't the DMV put a photo of the card holder on the parking pass with the advisory to be used by card holder only? Most of us thank God that we don't need a handicap sticker and hope we never will.

The thing about disability is that you can measure a person pretty quickly.
I work with people who by all rights should and could sit back and collect a disability check but whose pride and independence could not bring them to do so.

On the other hand are those who just love to play victim and could do substantially more than they are.

I knew a woman whose bone deformity was such that half her body was about parallel to the ground. Another woman who even with oxygen at her side would sometimes pass out . We did have to work to get her to retire before she hurt herself or someone else. and a guy who after colon surgery needed chemo, He made preparations to have the chemo at 8:00AM nearby the office so he could come to work. I would always greet him to see if he was able to work and he never missed a day after his surgery return to work date. Or the blind word processor who had to take a bus to work wand was always timely never missed a day and continued to produce quality work.

Then there was the young dude that just couldn't get to work because of bad headaches. i didn't get to really know him because he was around for very long. perhaps i should have suggested a handicap sticker for him so he could drive in with his headaches???????????????????????????????

And yes I do believe most of the people who have handicap stickers deserve them

No one could tell by looking at me that I need a placard for my husband's car. Don't judge other's so quickly. I had a stroke and had my driver's license taken away from me . My left foot is in severe pain after walking or standing for any longer than about 15 mins. So I can walk into a store and look fine, but I usually am limping out of the store. I have other issues but they don't relate to my placard.

I think that people like to point and judge which is so wrong. Also the state of MA had a photo on the handicap placard. If I had mine stolen I would report it to the registry because if that person is ever stopped and questioned regarding the placard it would come up as stolen. (My husband working on the police dept would question people who he felt were possibly using someone else's placard and ask for ID to see if it matched up to the owner of the placard). He found a lot of people using relative's or deceased owners of placards. The fines in MA were very hefty, not sure what the fines are in FL for these violations.

Talk of The Villages will not print what I have to say about that. The person that stole your handicap pass must have a lot of class.....and it's all LOW. Gee, I wish I could be more vocal !!!
