In my humble opinion, of course.

You will have a wonderful time. And I think you'll discover that 99% of Residents love dogs. And that 99% of pet owners act responsibly.

Oh no Bare... I hate that someone would feel that way. There are so many dog people and dog lovers here, as you well know.

I remember you wrote once that you can't take your dog to the square without being stopped often for someone to pet your dog!

I hope they change their minds! They and their dogs would LOVE it here!

If I were to give one reason for dragging my feet regarding moving to TV, it would be the aditude towards dogs. During my numerous visits to TV, I encountered so many "dirty looks" while walking my small dog. I'm not looking forward to that on a daily basis....forever. I make sure my "Gilda" does her business before we walk. Unfortunately, a few times she may have a small pee, or a poop that I IMMEDIETLY pick up. Since folks know that TV is supposedly a pet friendly community...why move here? I'm sure there are retirement communities where pets are not allowed.

OMG! I hope that person will call back and reconsider. I would hate to think that this thread had anything to do with her decision. Although I had thought about that as well, I soon realized that a few comments I truly hated would not necessarily impact my decision to come down and view the Lifestyle plan. We all have the right to make that decision for ourselves, but without really experiencing The Villages at it's best, how can we come to that conclusion? Please, whoever you are, don't let this thread make your decision for you. Check it out for yourself and see what it has to offer! I can post something after my visit or send you a message if you'd like.

I was a bit surprised at the intolerance and bickering of some, but understand they work hard to keep their yards looking nice. I asked myself if I wanted to join a community like that, but realize there are many, many people all with differing opinions. Pets are a wonderful part of our families, and one has to be committed to taking care of them responsibly, seeing to their needs, and reaping all the rewards they have to offer. No matter what the species! Infringing on your neighbors is never a good thing, be it pets or children or even oneself!
So I will come to TV in May with no preconceived notions and decide if this is indeed as nice as I have heard it to be! I look forward to my visit and experiencing all your communities have to offer!
Hello hotrodgirl -- I'm in Schaumburg so we are almost neighbors. Love to go to Ravinia in the summer. Tickets for the concerts in Ravinia go on sale next week I believe. Hope you enjoy your Lifestyle Preview Visit and don't drink all of the Arnold Palmers as I will be renting in TV in June, and I love to drink an Arnold Palmer (if you don't know what an Arnold Palmer is, order one at one of the restaurants in TV) -- quite refreshing on a hot summer day!

I find it hard to believe that person could be deterred that easily from The Villages simply by the remarks made on this thread. From everything I, a non-dog owner have read and seen since moving here, The Villages is definitely in my opinion a haven for dog lovers. I've seen many while traveling around the villages, several walking their little cuties in our neighborhood and some even pooping on our lawn with caring owners faithfully picking up after them when they do. I've even, while sitting in my den and for my own amusement only, made up cute little names for a few based on the type and look of the dog. i.e Pugsley or Muggsy for a bulldog! Why I even think they've been provided with a doggie rest room specfically for their needs as you will see when you click the following link!

Cute picture! And you are right. That's why I decided not to make my decision based upon a few comments I didn't appreciate. There are tons of neighborhoods, many of which are probably more pet friendly than others, and scads of people! I'm certain fully 99% are lovely people! And those who made the comments I didn't care for also have the right to their opinions. I have to respect that and just won't take my dogs near them if we were to meet. Perhaps they are wonderful neighbors excepting the dog thing. I just wouldn't live near them! I hope this lady will reconsider and go down for her trial run, else she will always wonder what it's really like in TV...

I was riding through Sanibel today (WOW is it growing) and saw a guy walking his dog across the street from his house. This area is a courtyard wall that backs up to the street for about 50 yds.

Either smart planning or a lucky break. Something to keep in mind if you have a dog though.

just wondering, is there a limit as to how many dogs you can have? I ask because I was playing golf at Bacall and I could swear I saw 4 dogs in someones birdcage across the street.

You are allowed to have two domestic pets residing in your household. However, people do have friends with dogs, and visitors from away! So there would be no problem at all if you saw four dogs in a birdcage. That doesn't mean they permanently live there!

Then again, maybe they do.

Default 2 Pets

It's going to be a sad day when we have to decide which of our pets to bring with us to The Villages. The choice will be between our beloved collie-mix (Dayzee), and our two sweet kitties (Billy Bob & Emily Lou). This winter they remained at home - back in Michigan. Sure miss them!!!! Think the move would be hardest on the 15 year old dog. How did you all cope with leaving a pet(s) behind when you moved here?

Folks, I agree that dogs should use their own yards, but I can't image stressing myself over someone's dog using my yard to potty...unless they don't clean up naturally. It's just their nature while walking to mark area's. To stress over your lawns with such; is just petty....worry about the weeds in your yards first! I take pride in my lawn trust me, let's all learn to not sweat such small things in life, your lawn is the least of life's issues!!!!
