I don't either but it doesn't seriously bother me when an owner permits their dog to walk partially or the entire length of my property on the grass. This does happen every day, several times a day, but I am thankful that I haven't seen a single incident where they (the owner, not the dog) failed to bag it to go! That includes two neighbors lawns that I can see from my den where we spend most of our time.

However, there is one woman and doggie that passes by every day that grates me a bit because she's let her little darln' walk the entire length of our lawn and take it's dump on the same spot. This has happened at least a couple of time that I've noticed, possibly more, and I can look out at that spot as I type this message and see that the spot I'm talkn' about is browner that the rest of the lawn.

Having said this, I still wouldn't hesitate to scratch their backs or pat their little heads any chance I get!

p.s. I forgot to mention that there is a good stretch of grassy Villages property just one property length away where the dogs could do their business without imposing on any of our residential properties. I guess it's not as much fun for the owners to let them go there, even if they do walk right by it.

gerryann - i don't react that way to my neighbors - just to dogs taking a dump in front of me. of course, have never been very good at holding someone's head over the toilet bowl when they are hurling either!

[QUOTE=graciegirl;572197]I think the answer to your question about a decent dog park being a priorty is that "they" do not have to change anything to be enormously successful selling homes here. I have to point out that how it is, is how it will be so please don't come with the hopes of changing anything and then be disappointed. This isn't anything like what most of us are used to in our lives up until now. It is a CDD form of government and we don't vote. We can suggest.

I realize that. Actually, I thought if I lived there I'd probably buy a couple of bags of mulch and put it on the dirt area of the small dog park myself.

I'm less concerned about the lack of better dog parks than some of the hostile remarks about dogs. Finding it disgusting to see someone clean up after their dog? I was looking forward to moving to a place where I wouldn't have to "sweat the small stuff". Again, like most responsible dog owners, I am very careful about making sure my dogs don't interfere with others enjoyment but I personally love to meet other people's dogs and see them about. Oh, well, at least it convinced me of the need for a CYV.

You really don't need to be concerned about the hostility, I get very little of it out and about. People here tend to only show their true selves on the internet, they like to portray themselves as well-adjusted in public.

A CVY would be a good idea, I think someone who values their own privacy stands a better chance at being respectful of yours. IMO, the people in CYVs tend to not be pretentious tools and are likely to have dogs.

I moved here specifically because it was good for dogs. I had looked at another place in Naples (frankly, I preferred that area) where they said you could only have one dog, then salesman just gave me a blank look when I said I had two (I think it was called Sophie's Choice Acres).

TV is great for dogs, I take mine everywhere, but then again I always did.

Hope.

I HOPE you have read some of my other posts so that you know that even though we don't own a dog we love them and enjoy them all around us. We just had a nice pet on a cute Chow at Lowes yesterday who was in the basket and we have a number of neighborhood dogs and know all their names and enjoy them.

I try very hard to paint an honest picture of this place because when I read on this forum that someone didn't know this or that, somehow it hurts me that they are disappointed in the wonderful place we now call our home town.

I have never met anyone personally that didn't like dogs, well one couple and they don't like cats either and I think they don't come over anymore because of ours. Ours like to interact with people and we literally have to shut them up in their room when we have company sometimes because they just want to sit on everybody and not everyone wants that.

You will find lots of beautiful dogs and mostly all wonderful dog owners. I feel you will be very happy here.

Kindest wishes,
Gracie

whew, thank you all. I think I may be overly sensitive because in my job I interact with a lot of people "our" age and older who are miserable and take it out on those of us who service them. The negativity is not only depressing but is affecting my health. It is one of the reason's I'm running numbers to see if I can retire next May. I had heard that people in TV worked hard all their lives, like I have, and now want to enjoy themselves, as I do, and are generally positive people and don't blow up over ever perceived slight or inconvenience. Am I being too Pollyannish?

You are not being Pollyannish, you're just ready to retire...
The people in TV are wonderful individuals, but there are some who have differing attitudes about things and situations....happens all the time when you bring people with background differences and views, together .... not a problem unless one makes it a problem. We all learn from others around us and it's best to try and find the special glow each one has...we all have good points and for some, it's easy to spot them in others.

People who have lived here for a while may see things in a different light than someone who is new to the community. It's a great place, it represents the results of years and years of hard work, saving, and now, freedom and time to enjoy. Initially you get busy with so many things, there's just so much to do, but after a while, you become selective about what gives you joy and while you may enjoy doing so many things, the day is only so long...

There are some things that have irked people, and even though they are now living what is their dream, they may still be irked. Just because they live in a beautiful, resort community doesn't mean they aren't bothered by things. You'll find that there are a number of things that can start discussions and our 4 legged friends is one of those topics. The Villages is a community, not a utopia, and it and its residents still have to deal with negativity every once in a while....but only every once in a while. It a beautiful place, filled with wonderful people and I know you're going to enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

Just curious - why does everyone talk about just poop? I see dozens of dogs who urinate on other people's lawns. This leaves a small yellow stain on their grass. I can understand why owners of houses on a large non-neighborhood street (think Bailey or St. Charles) get upset over the 'curb your dog' thing. They have dozens and dozens of dogs walk past their property every day.

I don't own a dog or cat but I would never let them 'go' on someone else's property or shared property like the mailbox area. But I see it every day and I just don't get it.

I have never experienced ANY negativity when I am out and about. NEVER. I walk my pup...I take her to the squares....I take her to the mail station...I take her everywhere. It's never an issue, ONLY HERE ON TOTV. So don't think for one second that any of the situations that are discussed here are a real problem. You'd think by reading these posts that there's dog poop all over the place...that the restaurants are full of nasty people...that you couldn't get a decent meal here, and we're all a bunch of drunks....well, may the last one a little. Don't worry. It's all good here...wonderful, friendly folks just enjoying life.
