I'm sure this has been talked about before but why did people buy street legal carts and then drive them on the cart path. I guess it was to get the tax credit. Some stopped buying the plates but still drive them. Is that legal no and they will probably never get caught. Seems to me that could be considered tax fraud. What do think

But to answer your question, Gov. Rick Scott signed the following bill on June 14, 2013 SB 62 Low-speed Vehicles – This bill allows the conversion of a low-speed vehicle to a golf cart by reducing the maximum speed to 20 MPH. So, they can LEGALLY now be converted back to a regular golf cart. |

I would rather see them driving on the cart path then holding traffic up on Morse Blvd crossing the bridge out of Lake Sumter.

You guess it was for the tax credit. Not necessarily. They may have just wanted to operate on the streets at higher speed. Some stopped buying license tags? If they did not go through the procedure to revoke their LSV status they could be charged with operating an unregistered vehicle if they operate it on the streets. Tax fraud? Assuming that someone did make their purchase for the tax credit, what were the listed obligations to receive the credit. Were they obligated to operate the LSV for a certain period of time? John Stossel of Fox News bought one to demonstrate that the tax credit entirely paid for the LSV, so he effectively got it for free. After demonstrating it on his news show he donated it to charity. By the time the program was on the air, the government had ended the tax credit. As I said, what were the obligations for someone who bought a cart to be street legal? Do that research and you may have an answer to your questions. |

You should have allowed him to tap your golf cart, yelled "Whiplash", and you would have owned a beautiful red Corvette! |

It's probably due to the fact that the insurance for street legal went from about $150 per year to around $900 per year or as much as a real car would cost.

Getting back to the OP, is it illegal for a street legal golf cart to operate on cart paths? Is that written somewhere? Are there some areas where the speed limits on the roads are higher than 35 mph and there are cart paths adjacent to those roads?

Really?? its a golf cart, are you checking registrations? Many have been changed legally to not be street legal. I like the safety of the street carts and they aren't bigger or badder..and hold the door! The way some people drive golf carts, I am thinking helmet. just in fun.

I personally would feel safer in the golf cart path, then in the roads. I notice that more "street Legal" carts are driving on cart paths. Smart Move!!!!!!!

I use the golf cart paths as much as possible to avoid vehicular traffic.
