You are correct most of the golf cart fatalities in TV have occurred when golf cart meets car. It is also correct that in TV itself there have been more fatalities associated with golf carts than with cars. Total accidents in within TV would go to cars but most of the car accidents do not end up with a fatality. My source is a recent Club meeting and a Sumter County Deputy Sheriff’s presentation. As I recall, since the beginning of The Villages, twenty was the number of golf cart fatalities. BTW, safety belts were highly recommended for your golf cart.

I don't believe that either. There were two people killed on 466 in December, there was the crash on 44 just the other day, and there was the recent motorcycle crash. That makes four deaths in just six months. Could there possibly be fewer than 16 other deaths in the past 30 years?

Are you referring only to car accidents on roads with speed limits of 35mph or less and excluding accidents at intersections with roads having higher speed limits?

Posted about 6 or 8 sources from police departments and civil engineers on a similar thread about a month ago, I’m not going to do it again. However, just google “slow driving causing crashes “ and you can educate yourself

Never heard of it and a google search can’t find one.

Jus from reading the news reports of cart fatalities........I don't remember any of the people were wearing safety belts. Not a guarantee...........but it doesn't hurt.

FYI the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration doesn’t even put slow driving as a contributing factor in any significant number of traffic accidents. Virtually unheard of by their numbers. The top reasons for accidents are Distracted driving (cell phones), speeding, DUI, lane usage and following to close. These are not in any particular order. Speeding DUI and no seat belt being leading contributors to fatal accidents.

Technically, falling never hurt or killed anyone, it was the sudden stop at the end that caused the damage. Still, "falls" make it into the statistics.

A cow in the road doesn't cause an accident, it is the lane changing/lane usage that results in the accident.

Similarly, driving below the speed limit will likely never be entered into the statistics as the cause of the accident. What the slow vehicle does cause is unexpected behavior by those that try to avoid the obstructive driver. This lane change/lane usage activity *is* counted in the statistics.

They were on the cart path, I assumed a STOPtional sign violation. Not sure the cart could have gotten up to top speed

Roundabouts within The Villages are much safer than the County roads 466, 466A State Route 44, US routes 27/441, etc. and their intersections, Of course, golf carts are not legally allowed to travel on any of those roads. Excluding where golf carts are not allowed, cars are safer within those boundaries. The actual boundaries of The Villages is subjective at best. The roundabouts make a difference for cars and I believe safety belts make a difference in golf carts. That’s the point.

I for one would welcome some enforcement on the golf cart paths. Too often I see people drinking and driving, running stop signs and just being too daring in the operation of golf carts.
Anything is possible at 10 am

A few weeks ago, I read that someone got t-boned pulling out of Citrus Grove.
With no roundabouts, Meggison is a straight run. As for the speed monitors, you get Leesburg/Lake on one end and Wildwood on the other

Which would be true IF there weren't 8, count 'em 8 roundabouts between Brownwood and Citrus grove, as well as a traffic light at Warm springs Ave

Can both of you be somewhat correct? There are roundabouts between 44 and Sawgrass, but none exist after Sawgrass for the next several miles up to 470. The Wildwood and Sumter county police can only patrol up to the Homestead recreation center. The Leesburg and Lake county police can patrol the other half.
