Talking Summer Heat

Here in Penn the winter is long and cabin fever for me is terrible. If I were to move to the villages would I house bound in the summer? I know it may seem like a silly question but I love/need to walk (Rather than get bored on a treadmill). is it possible to get out early mid summer and just walk. Do you need to go to a mall somewhere? I suspect you do get somewhat accustomed to the heat. I just don't want to trade one cabin for another.

Lots of people go walking early in the morning (6-ish)when the weather's hot. Also evening after sundown. I see plenty walking in the heat of the day, but I wouldn't.

Most of us do our outdoor activities early in the morning or in the evening. During the heat of the day we find indoor activities at the rec centers, our homes, etc. No question that during the heat of the day we go from vehicle to air conditioning as soon as possible, but very few are housebound in the summer. Pickleball still happens. Golf abounds. Walkers, joggers and bicyclists are out and about. Rec centers have all kinds of activities.

It does get hot but it's really the humidity that's the killer. I still haven't adjusted to it. Probably never will, but if I can cope, most of us can. Have no fear, you won't be stuck at home staring at your walls or the boob tube unless you want to.

Yes I normally also do not like the extreme heat. You will find many walkers very early in the morning and also in the evening. On occasion I like to get nice and worked up so I will walk noonish at times. I can't run but I can walk 5-6 miles daily. Come on down.

Closest Mall is in Ocala a half hour or so drive.

With the recent heavy rain, lightning and thunder, the humidity has been high. We played pickleball yesterday morning at 8:30 and were soaked with sweat by 9:00. Kept playing until 10:15 and went home and got into the shower.

Try water aerobics or walk away the pounds at the rec centers.

Honestly? I am retired Army and have lived all over the US, and also am originally from NJ. I do not think the ehat in FL in the summer is any worse then anyplace else. I know it is definitely cooler in FL then were we are moving from in Alabama in the summer.
Also the human body is a great thing. It will adapt in short order. You will find that if you go about what you usually do, maybe just abit slower that within several weeks you will really get use to it, and not bother you.
And, the summer is the best time in TV!

I moved here from PA last June and the summer was not any hotter here than it was in PA. I was not housebound. "The warmest month was August and I did all outside activities in the early AM of late PM. Moving to TV was the est move I ever made. Come on downl.

If you take up golf, it won't seem like walking. It will seem like utter frustration....but you are doing it with friends.

We actually watched the temps last summer and it was hotter here outside Philly than in TV. The only thing is that it lasts from May to October in TV. If you are like us you will acclimate to it in steps February on as it warms up....

We walk alot year round here, and we like to be where there are people and other interesting things to see. Our favorite places are the boardwalk at Sumter Landing, both of the squares, the main street area in Leesburg, and all of the shopping areas in Spanish Springs along 441. In summer we tend to walk in the morning or early evening, and we don't find the heat oppressive, although I know some people who only walk early morning in the hottest part of the summer.

Other alternatives if you want to walk inside and don't want to drive to the mall in Ocala or in Leesburg (or elsewhere) are to walk in the larger stores, like Walmart, Target, Kohl's, or Sam's - even places like Lowe's. We pick a store where we need to buy something; then we walk first, and afterward do any shopping we need to do there.

I really think water aerobics is the best exercise in hot weather. Most of you stays cool in the water. Sun block. Wear a hat.

Default There were more days over 95 in East TN last summer

than there was here in TV.

We do our outside stuff in the AM and early afternoon...then switch to the lanai or other indoor stuff.

I moved here from the Maryland 'burbs of Washington DC. I have gone through a couple of summers here in The Villages. It does get hot here but it is hotter and more humid in the suburbs of Washington DC. Another great feature of The Villages is the very good air quality as compared to the Washington DC area. Back there we had Code Orange and Code Red days for air quality based on the amounts of carbon monoxide and other pollutants in the air. Combine a Code Red air quality day with 97 degrees of heat and humidity in the 90's and it was downright miserable. That happened frequently in the summer.

Last summer my husband and I were in TV for 2 weeks to try out the summer we didn't think it was that bad. I think it was more humid at about 6:00am and then the afternoon was just hot but the evenings were great, but it was hot with no bugs, not like Mn. One day last summer Mike and I were golfing about 10:00am down here, and that afternoon I got an email from my golf league in Mn. that golf was canceled because it was to hot up north.
