The water here IS SAFE out of the tap. It's a personal choice if you want more filtration.

We opted for a plumber installed Sears Hybrid softener and filter combo. Total was around $ 1000 and it works very well so far.

Rule of thumb is the harder they push the more you are overpaying IMHO.

I called the water dept last week and the lady there told me the water hardness was 8 to 8.5 grains. She told me quite a few installers call the water dept to find out what he hardness is here in the villages.

I just drained my water heater yesterday. A whole lot of white gelatinous gunk came out. When that stuff hardens, I'm sure it would damage the heater.

We do not drink the water. Use bottled from Publix.

7 yrs here in TV. We never spent the $ on a water filter system. We use the water from the refrigerator and it tastes ok. The refrigerator has a filter that we change when required. I personally would not spend the $ on a system. Black rings around the toilet is a problem. Purchased the chlorine tables designed for toilets and it works fine.

If U had a whole house filter that would not happen, what you are seeing is sediment build up.

Nova filters have two sediment stages before a carbon bloc, that means you bath in clean water and cook likewise in clean water.

As far water sofeners I don't think you need one.

A triple stage Nova Filter will take of you and your pipes.

Moved in Oct 2012. Had lived in Jax back in the day. Knew water would be an issue and it was. smelled bad-tasted bad. Put a simple GE inline filter before the water softner. Presto!! Filters cost $10 each and change every 3-4 months. Filter itself cost was around $20. Home Depot !

Seriously, that's not really an adequate filter, you're deluding yourself to think it is.

You need sediment and carbon, but not just carbon a carbon bloc.

The previous poster said he was happy. You're telling him he shouldn't be?

No I'm saying that, he thinks he has good filtered water, when it is not with a tiny $10 filter.

I've been doing this over 35 years.

If he's happy fine.

Default Water treatment

We moved in to the village of fernandina and had a water treatment system installed. Rain soft system, it works great, low cost........ The shower is refreshing and the system provides all the soap products you'll ever need ...........we figure we have 8 years of this product, per their usage.........free.
We're from upper michigan and had pure clear water and i could tell the difference in the water here.......... Again it is a buyer's choice..........

If you are having a whole-house filter installed, why do you need one on the drinking water faucet?

Julie, we just spent $80 on a plumber to fix the leak in ur toilet. It was caused by those chlorine tablets eating away at the seal (the one you can't see at the bottom of the apparatus of these new-design toilets.) He changed the one in the second bathroom too, while he was there, because we had been using chlorine tablets in there too.

We've used these tablets since the late '70s so we were surprised. New design--no more chlorine inside the tank.

go to home depot and get a water boss just a little above the 500 dollar cost. The water ia vcery hard in the villages. Nothing wrong with the water , just hard. But whatever don't get taken by the hustlers. You can go on line and read all about the water boss.I have had one for three wears and love itdrd

Because a water softener doesn't purify water it just softens it. A Reverse Osmosis (R/O) system under the sink purifies the water for drinking. If you ever watch a plumber change out a hot water heater you will see it takes two men to carry out the old water heater but only one man to carry the new one in.
