IT TOOK 25 YEARS OFF MY FACE.
Glad it worked out well for you!
But to others contemplating the same locale, ask yourself "How would the finest surgeon in Costa Rica rank in Boston or NY?"

Good morning, Two Bills.

Gee, I dunno. I will find a piano and get back to you.

Propofol was my friend — just like the colonoscopy drug. Woke right up after. It’s a fast $urgery.

They had said something about sometimes using a little Versed before. I don’t know if they did that or not. . .

(I have always been suspicious of the root of that name for a drug. ‘Ver’
just like in ‘veracity’ or ‘verify’ or ‘verisimilitude’ or ‘veritably’ and the Spanish word ‘verdad’ = TRUTH! (Always wondered if Versed is truth serum or some such thing and I would tell them all kinds of stuff if they used that.)

For several years I sedated and injected patients for these kind of procedures. Versed is a wonderful drug, but a little explanation to the patient as to what is going to happen goes a very long way. I only used Propofol when someone was extremely anxious and all the explanation in the world didn’t help. The first mention of me using a tiny needle near their eye to numb things a bit was a great indication on just how anxious the patient was. On occasion if the patient didn’t move a lot I could carry on very nice conversation with the patient while the procedure being done. I had monitors in place but at times my hand on their wrist checking the pulse would calm things a bit.

I did it! I finally did it!

I had my eyelids done.

And I do not have that look of perpetual surprise. I do not look weirdly alert.

The bruising is almost gone. The swelling is almost gone. I always heal fast so I am.

I am still doing the frozen peas routine, just not as often. Longer than the instructions said though. And although I guess I do not have to sleep propped up now that the week is over, I probably still will for a few more days. (I think I must be trying to be one of those over-achiever types.)

By the weekend, I might be ready to nonchalantly appear in public. Wearing sunglasses to social things indoors though might just look suspicious.

I think I am supposed to wait a month before I am allowed to put on mascara and eyeliner. I will know for sure next week at the post-op visit. Anybody reading this want to volunteer how long they had to wait to put on a little eye makeup?

It looks like my only regret will be that I did not do this sooner.

I did not do this in TV. I am in my hometown right now where I know the territory and could ask at least 5 people who to go to.

But I thought maybe others here might want to share their blepharoplasty experiences and recommendations. Nobody can see us here so nobody can scrutinize the work. I love being anonymous on TOTV.

Boomer (lookin’ just like my senior picture. . .hmmmm, maybe I should change my high school hairstyle though. )
I had mine done about 5 years ago, and I'm very pleased. Hooded eyes run in my family, and because I use makeup every day, it was getting increasingly difficult for my eyes to look "normal."

As I remember, I was able to use eye makeup as soon as the incisions healed. I had them done in NJ, before we moved here permanently. It was done in the doctor's office, took about a half an hour, and I was on my way home. Easy peasy. I'm still pleased with the way they look.

Good for you! It took me a while to work up the courage.

Please consider a plastic surgeon! They do that procedure multiple times a week, and are very skilled. Experience is paramount.

Congrats!

I paid $3200 for just the uppers about 5 years ago in NJ. Don't have a clue what the going rate is here.

Congrats!

Depending on what needs to be done, if you are Medicare age, some of the cost might be picked up. That depends on your field of vision.

I knew, from the beginning, that mine would be only cosmetic so I had planned to have to pick up the whole cost.

If you think you might be interested, you can probably make an appointment for a consultation where they should give you the test where you push a button when you see a light enter your field of vision. They are measuring whether your vision is blocked. After that, they should tell you the cost of your specific situation so you can decide what you want to do.

A friend just had the whole nine yards — lids, above the lids, bags below removed, and a brow lift. Medicare picked up some of it — I think the lid part. (I did not need all that, just needed to get rid of some drooping skin above the crease, not blocking my vision though — yet. I had been thinking about it for a long time — and the time had come. It was for vanity, but it needed to be done for me.)

Vanity, thy name is. . . Boomer

I specifically chose an ocular surgeon, an ophthalmologist who specializes in all kinds of surgery of the eye area, some very serious — not just cosmetic. This one has an impressive education and a lot of experience. . .the consultation was not rushed — questions answered.

[QUOTE=mkjelenbaas;2064832]Thanks for the info - but curious - why would someone carry on a conversation on this site versus using emails to each other?[/QUOT

Well, because there are times when I like to write stuff that some might want to read. It is like some do crossword puzzles or knit. This is what I do.

AND, I love writing under my pseudonym. That’s the only way I would do it. I think there have been maybe 76.4 million others with the same name. . .

I love the oldie about post surgery when the surgeon has good, and bad news for the patient who has just had a leg amputated.
The bad news was the wrong leg had been removed, but the good news was the other one was getting better!

Good for you! I hope you heal quickly and are happy with your results. I’m glad you had it done at home instead of here. Always more comfortable in an area you’ve been for many years. Good luck!
