If you meet a bike (trike) in your car or cart coming at you in a neighborhood does it bug you?
YES! "it bugs" me. Not only is it ILLEGAL, it is STUPID and SUICIDAL!
Florida law considers bikes as legal vehicles, and as such they need to follow traffic laws. That INCLUDES driving on the correct side of the street. Anything else is INVITING head-on collisions. Who thinks that's a good idea?

We too ride incumbent trikes. Yet we do it LEGALLY and safely. Working WITH traffic, with mirrors, and with flashing lights works very well for us.

This stupidity changed the subject. A man was killed because he didn't see what was bearing down on him. I had a boyhood friend killed the same way, by a car that hit him from behind. Pedestrians: PAY ATTENTION. Walk facing traffic. See who is going to run you down. The difference between pedestrians and trikes facing traffic is that pedestrians can easily step aside.

walker was walking against the traffic "Westbound in the Eastbound lane"

golf cart was on the wrong side of the road, driving "Westbound in the Eastbound lane"

if the golf cart was electric, and within any normal age related hearing loss, the walker had no chance of survival.

In this case, cart driver loses her driver's license for life!

Very sad to see the fatalities that tragically impacts the lives of all involved.

People really need to be defensive on the streets and paths here.

If impeding traffic, try to avoid road rage and get out of the way when safe to let them pass.

A contributing factor is the infrastructure here in many cases is less than bike and pedestrian friendly.

No bike lanes on roads that have no shoulder and tall vertical curbs.

MMP's with no sidewalks to separate pedestrians from 20+ mph traffic.

Some gate intersections even force pedestrians to walk in the street at MMP connections.

Most bicyclists don’t abide by the rules of the road.
Ever see one stop at a stop 🛑

Yes, I have been really taken by surprise when rounding a corner and there is a bike coming right at me. I know it’s a MMP but it’s too dangerous because your bike is so low

As in hit from behind, either the person walking was on the wrong side of the road, or the cart was driving on the wrong side of the road. We can leave age out of this for the time being.

Yes, as you must have read, my response was to a post inferring that it’s because we live in a plus 55 neighborhood so expect it. It isn’t always age that causes these accidents just like the pedestrian hit at Sumter Landing proves.

And stop lines or signs in parking lots aren’t even enforceable.

When walking, I try to stay off the MMPs as much as possible - too many crazy cart drivers.

Uh-huh. Source, please.

Because I'll give you one:

"The standard size of a stop sign measures at 30 inches across with a white border of 20 mm (or a little less than an inch) around the sign1. The rumor that if you come to a “Stop” sign that has a white border around the edge, you don’t actually have to stop is false. Nearly every single stop sign has a white border around the edge, but you must stop at the sign and give way to traffic on a major road32."

Unfortunately, at least here in TV, the cyclists focus on THEIR privileges and rights, but NOT their responsibilities. This would include stopping at stop signs, yielding at yield signs, and not treating a pack of 20 as if they were one entity among other things. When challenged on this site, they often reply that carts and cars do the same thing. A case of 2 wrongs making a right???? The other excuse is that it is inconvenient because they would have to take their foot out of their toe clips to come to a stop. AWW, too bad baby. I have to stop at a stop sign, even when it is "inconvenient", and it is among the responsibilities of a cyclist as well.

Let's not discuss cyclist's "rights" without discussing their responsibilities.

Noooooooooo. Riding the wrong way is even more dangerous than with traffic.
When people come to an intersection (whether they negligently plan to run the STOP sign or not),
they look left.
You would be on their right side. Boom. "Oh, I didn't see that woman riding the wrong way."

Several other reasons already covered. Ride with traffic, and get some rear view mirrors on the bike and your helmet or attached to your glasses !
