The paperwhite is so light it's easy to hold. Decisions, Decisions.

I previously enjoyed using my Kindle to access books at different libraries over the years. But Sumter County Library uses the Boundless platform which is significantly inferior to other platforms that enable access to Kindle books.

Apparently, the Lake County library has also switched to an app, "CloudLibrary" that will not allow downloads to Kindle Ereaders. Bummer.

Yes, I already have found that out by visiting the Sumter Library and asking questions.

I just looked at the Alacha website and it turns out Alachua county library has a note: some digital materials such as OverDrive are limited to residents of Putnam, Alachua, and Levy (PAL) counties. Also, Adult Alachua County residents can register online for a free digital card. I don't remember those restrictions from a few years ago.
Alachua County Library District cards are free to any resident of Florida. They have both the Libby and Hoopla app. You can register online for a digital card, but I ran into it could not verify me so I would need to visit a branch. Sometime back I believe there was a nominal charge for non-Alachua residents, but the website seems to belie that. Since I have access to out of state libraries with Libby and Hoopla (both far superior to Boundless and Cloud Library) for my Kindle Fire I have not pursued further. The Micanopy branch about 3/4 of the way to Gainesville is the branch closest to us. Last edited by Arlington2; 07-12-2024 at 07:24 AM. |

has poor platforms and poor selections. With all of the money that has been paid to Sumter County by The Villages - ebook platforms and selections should be substantially improved. Most of us are used to far better selections. I don’t know who is in charge of this, but It needs improvement soon. |

I use Libby to access library books. They download to paper-white.

The Libby app is being replaced by CloudLibrary. Libby will soon be obsolete. CloudLibrary does not allow books to be downloaded to an Amazon Ereader.

I use kindle fire. I have a library card for both Lake County and Sumter. Sumter is Boundless and Lake County is CloudLibrary. Cloud is great with a larger selection of books. I have had to use my library card to get into Boundless a few times, but that is probably because I use Cloud 90% of the time. Because I am electronically challenged, because of my age, I took my kindle fire to each library to have them download the app. It gave me ‘peace of mind’ to know that it was done correctly.

In any case wish the local counties would play nicely together. |

If you live in Lake County, you can get a Lake County card and a Sumter County card for free. But, if you live in Sumter County, you can get both cards, but you will need to pay a fee of $40 per year for the Lake County card.

And if you are in Lake County you can also get a Marion County Library card for free. They have Libby and Boundless.
