Again people...these (some) athletes are horrible human beings but until its changed, it's about on field/court/ice accomplishments. Character doesn't enter the equation unless its a butt hurt writer that can't stay on script and has an agenda

I will just say that you would never see Arnold Palmer charge for an autograph. He took his time to make sure his name was legible and encouraged younger pro golfers to do the same. Charging a fan for an autograph is disgraceful.

My son and I were at a Mets vs Cincinnati game in 1981 and our seats were right by 1st Base. During batting practice my son, then 12 years old, was trying to get autographs of some of the Mets. He was totally ignored. Pete Rose was at the bat. After he finished batting practice, he walked over to the Mets side, where we were standing by the rail. He walked up to my son, and asked him if he would like his autograph. My son was thrilled and we thanked him. He said, "I noticed the Mets players totally ignoring your son, even though he was the only kid there".
He still has that autograph on his wall. I don't condone what he did, but he was still a great ball player.

Rose's accomplishments puts him the the same league as Babe Ruth, Walter Johnson, Ty Cobb, and Henry Aaron. Nevertheless the harm that a player could conceivably do to the game by gambling on their sport, particularly as Rose knew full well that what he was doing was totally forbidden, outweighs anything else.

Banning him was the right decision. Sad as that may be.

You obviously don't know how sports collectible and card shows work. Arnold Palmer or any athlete that gets booked for these events...in addition to appearance fees, charges for autographs. Perfectly acceptable.
Idk if you think they're charging as players on the fields or courses ...never heard of that nonsense. On their own time either. They may decline a request but not pull out a bill fold or coin dispenser to make change for a fan. Smh

Horrible human beings comes in all shapes, sizes, rich, and poor. IMO the rich probably has higher percentage.

His accomplishments as a player are what he is judged (or should be) in HOF consideration. This isn't the College of the Cardinals picking a Pope!

I lost all respect for him when I watched him steamroll Ray Fosse at home plate during the 1970 All Star game. Fosse was never the same after that play. Taking out a fellow ball player during a meaningless exhibition game is not something a good person does.

I posted i attended couple of events before, and one after at his house. Which by the way is one of the more affluent neighborhoods in the city.
It was at a fundraiser, his mom was involved in, and he went off on a tangent to the staff. Since it was her venue, staff told her we are here to take care of your needs.
