I love to read posts where people are complaining about the littlest things that seem to get under their skin. Gives me my smile of the day that I am surrounded by so many happy people here in The Villages that get great enjoyment in complaining about things that would not even be on the radar for a majority of residents here.

OP you are pushing the envelope regarding spelling on this website. That's okay---you have a right to your pet peeve same as the rest of us.

I could say a lot about "spelling" (I'll put my better half up against anyone) but I will only make one quick comment. There is a huge difference between writing a piece to communicate your ideas or opinions on a website such as TOTV and being concerned about editing your thesis.

As one of my favorite college professors said----"I don't care so much about your spelling but I do care about what you have to say". Finally, these darn computers sometimes change my words into the wrong words. Dam! Ooops I meant darn.

Very true. A few years back, a Masters candidate let me read a paper she was writing, to see what I thought of it. I went ahead and corrected all of the spelling mistakes and gramatical errors that I found and handed it back to her.

She looked at the edited article and said "I can't submit that". When I asked why, she said "because they know I can't spell worth a damn and they will know someone helped me and I will get an F"

She submitted the article as is and got a B+. Obviously, she was marked on content and knowledge of the subject, not on her penmanship!

Last I heard, she was working on her PHD. Inability to spell in no way should infer stupidity. We are what we are, no one need be perfect at everything.

I'm not perfect and make mistakes. I volunteer with adults that can't read and write. Yes, they are all around us. Someone types a word that may not be spelled correctly or uses a work incorrectly can happen to all of us. Judgmental comes to mind, but so does freedom of speech. I will not judge and will give everyone the ability to speak their mind.

I always wonder if those that can't spell, really care about their shortcomings
and I am sure they make up for it in other areas. Perhaps, they are all erudite in math or chemistry, areas where some of us are far less adept. Maybe they think we, who are less adroit in math, as being nothing short of dunces!

To some, my grammar and punctuation may not be quite up to standard. But, to me it doesn't bother me in the least.

Murray you are a wise person. At one time I worked in the Ph.d program of a large University and you would not believe the spelling and grammar mistakes the candidates made. They were exceptionally bright but were more interested in content and less interested in form.

Personally I think it's anal to pick apart a note for mistakes. That's why God made editors.

I think my brain is functioning to fast to realize the difference. One thing I had to mention is on the show Judge Judy this week a litigant came up with a new word "tooken". She kept saying it over and over and Judge Judy stopped her and said there is no such word as tooken. It was a funny moment.

Come on now, I don't think anybody is losing sleep over the minor annoyance of having the King's English slain. I'm proud that I can mispell misspell. You have to override spellcheck but it can be done.
