Re: McCain names Sarah Palin VP running mate
The irony here is fantastic.
Only a dem could have the hudspa to stand up and call Sarah Palin inexperienced as apposed to (Sam and Red this is for you) Obama. She has Executive experience Obama and Biden are Senators, Can anyone tell me what Senators do?, Besides talk. One of you said " totally inexperienced person only a heartbeat away from the presidency" Isn't that better than a totally inexperienced person in the presidency? One of you said " do you really think she's ready to step in as president?" one could ask do you really think he's ready to step in as president? As to a question asked earlier on totv about the seemingly large number of dems here. I dont think there are so many as it is that they are the loudest. They waste no opportunity to disparage those who dare to speak ill about any lefty point of view or person, I think in the hope is that their loud rebukes will discourage any reasonable discussion on the other side. I was so disappointed when I found totv from the first day I noticed that the Bush haters were all over the site. If you will go back and check posts , you will find It is always the dems who call names and make snide remarks and question other posters intelligence. IMPO Benj. |

Re: McCain names Sarah Palin VP running mate
Just two observations....
Gov Palin, I believe, had served 5 years in office before Sen Obama thought about running for office.... And lastly...from Sen Obama's speech of last night... "For eighteen long months, you have stood up, one by one, and said enough to the politics of the past. You understand that in this election, the greatest risk we can take is to try the same old politics with the same old players and expect a different result. You have shown what history teaches us - that at defining moments like this one, the change we need doesn't come from Washington. Change comes to Washington. Change happens because the American people demand it - because they rise up and insist on new ideas and new leadership, a new politics for a new time." Is not Gov Palin the only one of all 4 candidates who meets that criteria ? It just struck me when reading this part of his speech ! |

Re: McCain names Sarah Palin VP running mate
Re benj's post - On a totally non-political note, as a New Yorker I just have to correct something. It should be:
khutspe חוצפּה Main Entry: chutz·pah (Merriam Webster spelling) Variant(s): also chutz·pa or hutz·pah or hutz·pa Function: noun Etymology: Yiddish khutspe, from Late Hebrew ḥuṣpāh Date: 1883 : supreme self-confidence : nerve, gall synonyms see temerity אַ דאַנק (thank you!) |

Re: McCain names Sarah Palin VP running mate
Benj, I said neither one. I have not really commented on Obama, McCain or any of them.
I refuse to lose friends over this election. It will come and go. I have commented on the process ripping apart possible friendships. Maybe you have me confused with someone else. Quote:

He is bringing "change" so he picks Biden as a running mate. What the heck kind of change is that? And an attack dog senator at that. As for Palin, for the last two years while she was running a state, Obama was running for president. She has more substance in her baby finger than he does in his whole body. |

Re: McCain names Sarah Palin VP running mate
Ok Travel,
I tried to spell KHUTSPE several ways and even tried to look it up in the dictionary. Now I know why I couldn't find it. But I hope you get my point anyway. Just after my post I read the subsequent posts and you only have to go back a few posts to make my point. In just the last few the dems have said... SO she was runner up in Miss Alaska...I would consider that an accomplishment. Palin is a featherweight..Obama is?... She will continue the Bush policy of never telling the truth... She will spin a good snow job... She is a Bimbo beauty queen... McCain picked her because Cindy is starting to show her age... It's McCains personal policy to dump a partner... Bush Cheney and " Dumbsfeld" should be executed in the morning One guy said he couldn't live through another election like the last two. But seems to have lived through them pretty well. Maybe It's just me but this doesn't seem like people who are very fair minded. Does it to you? I cought holly hell from members here for calling Obama Lord Obama. They said I was name calling. So what do you call these comments? Are you going to ask these posters to stop language like this? Benj |

Re: McCain names Sarah Palin VP running mate
It never ceases to amaze me how we think (myself included) we know the answers about political candidates. I feel the problem is we NEVER know what the actual truth is with national politics. We listen to news sources, jump on the bandwagon of someone who “seems” to think the way we do, and “defend” his politics by believing every negative thing that is said about his opposition. Swift Boat coalition against Kerry; complaints about GW’s Air Guard “service”. But where were these guys when Kerry ran for the senate and GW for governor? I guess they were good enough for those offices but not good enough for president?
As cliché as it may sound, my belief is that politicians only have THEIR own interests at heart and not that of the country, and 61 years of living has borne that out. McCain and Bush thought each other an S.O.B. - but now they have kissed and made up - for the good and unity of the PARTY. Who cares about the PARTY? What about the USA? And of course, Clinton and Obama are no different. I’m a Viet Nam 30% disabled vet an draw a retirement from the AF Reserves after 26 years total service, as well as a 20 year Federal Civil Service and 20 year Plumber union pensions. I am not so much afraid as I am tired of it all, and a registered INDEPENDENT! But I’m glad new generations of interested young voters are taking their place in the “I can make a difference” line - liberals as well as young conservatives. I hope they can make a “difference” - but I don’t have the heart to tell them I don’t believe it will happen. |

Re: McCain names Sarah Palin VP running mate
Benj ~ My correction of the spelling of khutspe is a totally lighthearted comment. The spelling would be almost impossible to find if you didn't have access to a Yiddish dictionary.
Now on to the topic at hand - I vigorously oppose name-calling of anyone, politicians or not. My mother used to teach us that it was a sign of ignorance if you could not express yourself without name calling. You may not know this, but I used to post more frequently, however when I once commented that I found it offensive when people were outright disrespectful and nasty in their remarks about our President (and others), I was told that if I didn't like it, don't read it. I am registered as an Independent and have not posted any comments supporting or opposing any candidate on this forum. I have posted informational links and just yesterday was criticized for that as well (an AARP survey, which I thought was harmless, and I was told to "wake up"). So I guess it comes with the territory - I'll choose to stay in the kitchen, but hope to help turn down the heat with a little levity when possible. Have a good weekend! Re: McCain names Sarah Palin VP running mate
Sadly I agree with both Lazeelink and Sam. I do so wish that we were wrong and that politicians were not the self serving, purchased subjects of the "Master" corporations. I really, really, wish I was wrong. I would love it if someone could give me proof of this, not opinions...I have enough of those on my own.
The only good thing I can say about this presidential race is that the vp candidates are more interesting than the p candidates. (I will capitalize their titles when they win me over...which hasn't happened yet, that's for sure.) So far a lot of rhetoric. Today's move though sparked a little interest in me. I may just have to look into Gov. Palin. Biden is interesting on a certain level. I need to believe that Biden and Palin represent we, the people not the good ol boys...cause I don't believe it of their running mates. And please, the good ol boys are in both parties. |

Re: McCain names Sarah Palin VP running mate
Well I have stuck my two cents in on occasion and and have got no satisfaction at all for either penny. Seeing how Susan has posted something here I feel safe to post also.
Forget the experience factor and who is a man, white or black and who is a woman. You all must think party. It does not, and I repeat does not matter what Obama says. He will do in the end what Soros and the leftwingers want. McCain will eventually toe the line with the right wing. The only way to to sanely get any kind of rationale out of this or any other election is to know what each party stands for. It's not magic. It is on record. Democrats love big government. Trying to save the world by giving everything to people who won't work for it. They will tear down our military and defense. They will tax you to death and back to pay for all their social programs. Republicans love corporations and money. They will cut or hold down taxes and they will keep the military and defense strong. They make people earn what they have and let them keep it. They will end pork barrel spending. It is the simple philosophy of Liberals (do what feels good at any cost) and conservative (keep things on an even keel). I am a Republican and a conservative, seeing 80,000 people at a football stadium to hear a speech made me cry just thinking how much money that fiasco cost. I'm sure that money could have gone to people, who as Obama opines, feel the pain. Obama is the most liberal person in Washington and Biden is third. That should be enough to scare the pants off of you. Foreign relations experience. Forgetaboutit....No big deal. That is why we have a Congress and Senate. That is why we have a Secretary of State and Defense. Bush just didn't go to war. Congress went along with the same information he had. There were 18 UN resolutions outstanding. Don't forget it was Bill Clinton who named Saddam an outlaw and called for regime change. If Bush went in for oil, as all leftwingers would have you believe, then how come we don't have oil fields in our possession and the Iraqi people living on handouts. Think party people, you elect a party and what they stand for, not a person. The person you elect will carry out the party's plank. Always has and always will......... |
