Default Congress Address The Important Stuff

That's just my opinion.
I don't either, Richie. But the only reason it was formed was because the elected representatives in the House and Senate couldn't reach any kind of agreement on fiscal problems. So they appointed a "super committee" of only 12 members, representing the entire 535 to hammer out some answers that the larger group failed at.

So now it appears that even the super committee is going to fail to agree on anything. That's going to result in some automatic spending cuts to kick in, with no thought or concern as to the effect or what's going to be cut. I guess that way none of the 535 will have to take responsibility for whatever cuts occur.

But let me predict one other thing that I expect from the 535. Within a short time, they'll introduce legislation to overturn the automatic cuts that resulted from their failure. And we'lll be back where we started, borrowing 42 cents of every dollar qe spoend from the Chinese!.

In the meantime, our Congress has decided, with the "assistance" of the frozen pizza and potato grower lobbies, that tomato paste is a vegetable and french fries are healthy. So our school kids can continue to survive on pizza and french fries for school lunches. Does it take a degree in home economics to know that this legislation is simply ridiculous...and unhealthy!

This is a prime example of how congressional politicians insist on micromanaging even the minutest details of citizens' everyday lives....

As if a local school board, or administration that hires the cafeteria managers and cooks are not capable of knowing what foods offered would work/sell best.

State-controlled school lunch programs illustrate the expansive power base the Statists insist on having and keeping.

I understand your discomfort with the secrecy of the "supercommittee," but remember that the entire Constitution was written in secret by participants working under a self-imposed "gag order." And that worked.

I agree -- I also think the "supercommittee" will fail. But the automatic spending cuts will not take place because Congress has a little over a year to find a way to repeal that provision.

Agreed. Work is already underway to that very end.

The issue was staying with a "drug addicted husband." I was just pointing out that Bush was an alcohol and Laura stayed with him. So why are you making an issue of Michelle staying with Obama?

To me this just poisons the koolaide, which ever kind you drink, and makes it impossible to discuss anything.
It is a shame that when someone can't make a point the next step is hate and vitriol.
How about expanding on your point with out ending the sentence with so sort of derogatory statement or name calling. You don't know but it may give someone something to think about! And may even give you something to think about.
And before I am attacked for painting with a broad brush, it comes from both side but usually as a response to an attack not a first volley.
I try to remain rational, but at times it is difficult because posting anything here is much like running at a windmill. I do accept that NOTHING anyone says that is not towing the conservative rep line will be laughed at, degraded, minimized etc. You guys think liberal is a dirty word. Much of the posting here is clearly done by folks who think they are just so cleaver with their wordplay and that they want the kudos of their peers. Fortunately for me, I do not want or expect any such response to anything I say. I am a little too secure for that kind of thing. What does bother me is the snarkiness of some of the posters here, left or right. Some of these posts were WAY WAY out of line. Here is my big issue...why are you guys so vicious about anything not 100% conservative? Why are you so afraid of a speaker here who does not agree with you 100%? I keep getting called a liberal while I have said many times I support the death penalty, closing the boarder, pro military, etc. You just can't seem to handle anyone who takes things issue by issue. I have never voted a straight party line. How many of you can say that? Prove me wrong....please.

This is a gentle reminder:

1. The United States of America is not a DEMOCRACY.

2. The United States of America is a REPRESENTATIVE REPUBLIC.

3. Learn the difference.

So if you strongly believe that the United States is a Democracy and you are as educated as you state you are, we are really in big trouble as a country. So you are for majority rule, not the rule of law. Guess that I spent 20 years defending the wrong piece of paper.

I like rational; but politics is mostly psychological, and that makes it personal. And when it gets personal, it gets,...well, personal. People don't like their beliefs questioned and they get defensive when their beliefs are questioned. It brings out the worst in people. Health care debate and debt limit debates are pretty good examples of what can happen. And that goes both ways: liberal or conservative, right or left.

That seems to me what has happened here and things got out of control. Just my humble opinion.

I have been married to the same woman for 49 years and we have been together for 55. Does that count or something in this thread? I threw that out because I got lost concerning the conversation after page 3 or so????

Sure that accounts for something in this thread. It sounds like your story is one of love, devotion, and loyalty. And that pretty much sums up this thread: a lot of people here with love, devotion, and loyalty for a land they feel is threatened. They just can't agree on what to do about it, so the conversation gets a little animated at times. But, sure, Rubicon, your comment fits right it.

You called Bush a drunk even though he quit decades ago. With your logic, then Obama is a drug addict. You can not see that?

yarnspinner,
I agree with what you say here but this is not personal in politics this was meant to be just personal and that is where I think it went off the rail.
Do you think that this kind of direct attack is OK?
This was not "beliefs" being questioned!

Quote:
You opine vague justice, your own sense of socio-economic policy,
and the tiny world of partisanship in which you live. This is your only soap box and you take it seriously. No room is left for thmajority who are morecalm and moderate with regard to the world and world
justice, for the many who may still believe in "hope" and "change". Anyone who has to look up (probably on Wikepedia) Hillary Clinton,
needs to find either a wet nurse, or another planet on which to take up space. Why I even lower myself to respond in this forum is entirely insane
to me, bahhaa, bahhaa, bahhaa, damn you got my goat this time.
Not me.

I don't think any personal attack is ok -- direct or indirect. Nor do I see "personal in politics" being any different than personal in,... well, hygiene, or attire, or any other thing that is personal. Personal is personal.

But, I'm just a simple country kid from Kentucky...what do I know?
