When using Internet Explorer, I keep getting messages like "need to install Adobe Flash Player" or on TV at bottom of page "This website wants to install Adobe Flash Player". When I follow the link to insall, I get messages like:
1. User does not have sufficient privilege to install Adobe Flash Player 2. A required file (c://windows/sysWOW64 (Macromed/Flash/Activex.vch:5) could not be written due to insufficient permission. 3. Adobe Flash Player did not sufficiently install. I checked my Control Panel and it shows the following installed programs: Adobe Air Adobe Flash Player II Active X Adobe Flash Player II Plug Ins I do not seem to have this problem when using Firefox; I am able to view videos. But for some reason I prefer to use Internet Explorer and therefore, keep encountering this problem. I then have to switch to Firefox to view the video. Any simple solutions? I am completely computer illiterate. Thank you. After posting my original question, Using IE, just clicked a video attachment to an email. The video DID open and played with "big time skipping". However, I still get message at bottom of TV site saying" This website wants to install Adobe Flash Player". So problem must still exist. HELP !!

P.s. other computer users please advise on this one, but I think you may have to uninstall your current adobe flash player before installing a new one. |

Installing Adobe from JNIEMAN's link should be safe, and doing so should automatically delete/replace any previously-installed bits of Adobe without your having to delete them manually.

OK. I shut down the computer and started all over again.
1. Checked control panel and it says the 3 Adobe add-ons I mentioned above are installed. 2. Went into my Centurylink e-mail account via Firefox, clicked a video in an email and it played successfully. 3. Went into my Centurylink e-mail account via Internet Explorer, clicked the same video and got the following message "This video will not play. You currently do not have Adobe Flash Player installed on this computer." 4. "X" out of that. 5. Went to adobe.com, Download Flash Player, unchecked Chrome and Download now. Was asked do you want to run or save. Chose "run". 6. Got message at bottom "Install flash player couldn't be downloaded". Screen sat there is a "frozen" state. HELP !! P.S. Adobe site suggested making sure I am Administrator. I went to control panel - User Accounts - It said Administrator under my icon name. I don't know what else to do.

I suspect your problem is in internet explorer. I had a similar problem recently and that was the culprit. You may wish to have one of the members of the computer club come to your house and troubleshoot the problem. I think they advertise on TOTV.

Followed your instructions and here are the results:
After 12 minutes, it was at 50% of install. A dialogue box appeared in the center saying"please close the following program to continue" Internet Explorer. I did that. Then I clicked "Retry". The install screen came back up for 2-3 seconds. Then the following message appeared "User does not have sufficient privileges.....". The adobe.com screen then came up with the following message "Adobe flash player did not successfully install". Before I did this I went into the control panel - user account. The icon with my name on it has the word "Administrator" under it, just like my husband's icon has "Administrator" under his. I selected "change account type" just to see what would happen. There were 2 choices "standard" and "administrator". The standard one was selected. I clicked "administrator" but button at bottom is not highlighted so I cannot change from the "standard". Why would the icon with my name say administrator, but on the following screen say "standard" and doesn't give me the option to change it. Do you think this could be my problem? In checking programs and features on the control panel, I now have Adobe Air, Adobe Player II Plug In but the Adobe Flash Player II Active X which was there earlier is now gone. Thank you.

If, after trying my instructions from within an administrator account, your still getting the error, it sounds like you will need to repair permissions in your file system. WARNING: This tutorial gets a little technical. Changing permissions can seriously damage your PC if you don't do it correctly. Proceed at your own risk. Update user privileges in Windows XP Professional Important: Before you start, make sure you can see hidden files in the operating system and that simple file sharing is disabled. See Display hidden files and folders and Turning on and turning off simple file sharing on the Microsoft support website. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the parent folder listed in the error message in your log file. In This case: c://windows/sysWOW64 Right-click the parent folder and choose Properties. In the Properties window, select the Security tab. In Group Or User Names, select Administrators (1). Then, in Permissions For Administrators, make sure that Full Control is set to Allow (2). In Group Or User Names, select System (1). Then, in Permissions For System, make sure that Full Control is set to Allow (2). Still in the Security tab (1), click Advanced (2). In the Advanced Security Settings window, make sure you're in the Permissions tab. Select Replace Permission Entries On All Child Objects With Entries Shown Here That Apply To Child Objects (1) and click OK (2). Click OK to close the Properties window. Turn simple file sharing back on (see Turning on and turning off simple file sharing on the Microsoft support website) and then reinstall your Adobe product. Click OK to close the Properties window. Turn simple file sharing back on (see Turning on and turning off simple file sharing on the Microsoft support website) and then reinstall your Adobe product. Update user privileges in Windows XP Home Shut down the computer, wait 5 seconds, and then turn the computer back on. As soon as the Windows logo appears, press the F8 key. Using the arrows keys, select Safe Mode With Networking and press Enter. Follow the instructions in Update user privileges in Windows XP Professional. After step 9 in that procedure, restart the computer before reinstalling your software. Update user privileges in Windows Vista, Windows 7 Important: Before you start, make sure you can see hidden files in the operating system. See Show hidden files on the Microsoft support website. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the parent folder listed in the error message in your log file. In This case: c://windows/sysWOW64 Right-click the parent folder and choose Properties. In the Properties window, select the Security tab (1) and then click Advanced (2). In the Advanced Security Settings window, select the Owner tab (1) and click Edit (2). In the Change Owner To area, select the Administrators group (1) and then select the option Replace Owner On Subcontainers And Objects (2). Click OK (3). Note: If a security warning or window appears, click Yes to continue. Click OK to close the Advanced Security Settings window and click OK to close the Properties window. Repeat steps 1 through 3. In the Advanced Security Settings window, select the Permissions tab (1) and click Edit (2). Verify that the Permission column for System and Administrators is set to Full Control. If permissions are not set to Full Control, do the following: Deselect Include Inheritable Permissions From This Object's Parent and click Apply. Note: It's likely that you encounter a few windows to confirm that action. Copy the permissions and accept any security warnings. Click Edit. Select Full Control and click OK. Select Replace All Existing Inheritable Permissions On All Descendents With Inheritable Permissions From This Object (1) and then click OK (2). Click OK to close the Advanced Security Settings window and OK again to close the Properties window. Reinstall your Adobe product. ------------------------------------------------------ Like I said earlier.. this can be very technical, so if you need help, feel free to give us a call! #Eddie

I, too, had several problems with already-installed programs when I updated my version of Internet Explorer. The easiest solution for me was to switch to using Firefox as my browser. So if all else fails...

I think I am going to just stick with Firefox as Artic Fox suggested if it isn't a manufacturer's error.

My husband had Adobe messages appear, so he clicked on it. He then spent 5 hours with tech support before they told him that this particular message was not from Adobe, but a virus..so be careful. G directly to Adobe to install any of their programs.
