My guess is that the sooner most of us are vaccinated the sooner we reach herd immunity

That figure may be right for someone under 40 years of age but for those of us over 55 the recovery rate is somewhat less and significantly less for those over 65 (the group currently eligible for the vaccine)

There are approximately 80 million people who are not being vaccinated because they are under the age of 18 and have not been cleared to get it. Add the people who are not advised to get it for medical reasons and then the ones who refuse to get it and herd immunity is questionable. There is still SO much they don’t know yet like how long immunity will even last.

Herd immunity will take care of itself. Those that want to get vaccinated and those that will be required to be vaccinated will be. Those that refuse to get vaccinated will either get lucky and not contract the virus or will become part of the herd the natural way. For the most part, the virus will only be a risk to those who choose to be at risk. Immunity will last until next Fall. At that point the science will indicate that the best course of action will be to get a Covid booster along with the yearly flu shot.

This vaccination will need yearly booster as in flu shot..I read . it’s only good for 6-8 months of immunity. I’m not sure we will ever get heard immunity as 70- 80 percent of people will need vaccine and don’t know if younger people will get it as much

Frankly, I don't think anyone, not even the medical experts or scientists, have a definite answer about COVID or what the vaccines does or doesn't do. Only time will tell. Our country was not prepared for this.

We are being fed this line about it being possible for you to spread Covid to others even if you've been vaccinated. So don't just wear a mask, double up on your masks just like you got two shots of the Covid vaccine to be extra safe. But, alas, even that is no guarantee that you'll be safe but it will keep others safe....and now my head will explode. |

This info is not actually contradicting. The vaccine will protect 95% of the recipients from the known variations of covid 19. So 5% may still contract covid 19 although they are unlikely to be severely ill or die from the virus. However, there is uncertainty about the new variants from the UK, So Africa, Brazil and California. So it is possible for a vaccinated person to carry the virus to others. That's why the recommendation is to continue to wear face masks and maintain social distancing. The other part of the problem that I see that is many folks believe that if they are outside with others that they don't have to wear a mask or distance. There is a prevalence of the idea that "I'm doing everything right" but in fact, the virus continues to spread because of lack of masks and social distancing. I read a statistic recently but I can't find it now that if everyone wore a mask for 2 weeks 50,000 people would not die from covid. A brief ride through any of the downtown areas of any of the villages will demonstrate the lack of contagion protocols.
