Sharing a shower would absolutely not reduce water usage because time spent would increase as would need to cleanse.🥴

I thought with all the recent rains we would have plenty of water here in the Villages. It does need to be treated but the ponds and lakes look still higher than usual.

Ok, I figured out when I take shower how much water I use (based on my shower head) based on my method cutting water off when it don’t need to run.

It’s takes 30 seconds for hot water to reach my back master shower which takes 1 gallon of water to get hot water back there.

Now I start showering
It takes me 89 seconds water running to shower using 2.6 gallons or 9.84 liters of water.

From start to finish 119 seconds and 3.6 gallons/ 13.62 liters.

I was guessing I was using 6 gallons or more, but was way lower than my guest amount!

When water ration comes I’ll have to figure out how use that 1 gallon water waiting on hot water to get to shower? No sense let gallon water go down drain under rationing
Water rationing won’t happen in “the free state of Florida.” You must be worried about the desert SW & Cali. Their water wars would be solved if they’d build desalination plants in Cali, capture snow melt & stop allowing landscaping that’s not native to the area, like turf grass. Additionally, Mexico has no right to US water yet we allow them to pull from our water resources. Florida has the opposite problemmost of the time—too much water.

Great idea but you may be unintentionally creating a mosquito breeding facility. Any standing water—even a thimble-full or a catch-tray under a planter—is a mosquito breeding location. To stop mosquitos, you can add & maintain a tiny amount of Mosquito Bits (Bt) which kills mosquito larvae & is not expensive. The bits need to be added again periodically to remain effective though. The active ingredient (Bt) is not harmful to birds, humans, etc. but it kills mosquito larvae.

Second year of what were we thinking staying in TV in summer. We do travel north during for short vaca the last two years for some snow, color change and lake time. Otherwise here fulltime, since Labor Day 2021, but with options.

Our other homes in TV were originally for parental use, then long term rentals. All 3 of our kids have full apartments for us in NC barrier island, the hills in KY. We still maintain northern family home, and lake house original log cabin built by great grand, then expanded to accommodate growing family, for 150 years, it will be passed down to next gen.

Maybe newer appliances use less water, and we don’t wait for water to warm for showers, in TV. Are you combining irrigation and potable water in those gallons? Our 1300 is just inside use.

We had water conservation here in pass (rationing was not good term) using the detergent of raising price of gallons used, watering on even or odd day, and when rain came they still was charging more for months later.

Only south of 466 or 466A uses irrigation pond water for residential use. I don’t have pond water irrigation water. I don’t know if rec center’s use pond water? The water used around rec centers don’t stink?

YouTube for the “how to” ….
The flow restrictors in showers came into being somewhere in the 80's. In 1994 the Federal government required that all shower heads pass no more than 2.5 gal/minute of water. It also set standards for water use by dishwashers and washing machines.

Hotels and motels were early adapters of low-flow shower heads, viewing them as a way to save money. This was done without considering whether or not there was a water shortage in the area.

When I traveled for business, I made it a point to unscrew the shower head and remove the restrictor as many of the hotels/motels used shower heads with a flow rate of only 1.5 gal/minute. That low of a flow rate made for a miserable shower and, probably, doubled the time you spent in the shower to get the soap rinsed off.

That tiny flow makes rinsing hair like mine SO DIFFICULT, they are not saving water with me. I like your unscrewing shower head tip!!

I thought so too. It was great after TS Debby rolled through and we finally had water in ponds that had been close to empty, but nope we can’t have nice things here. TV just let the sprinklers run day after day until the ponds were back down to only 3/4 full. It makes no sense when there’s no new storm on the horizon. Then winter comes along with no rains and our ponds drop down to empty or almost empty again. Why remove water from ponds when there’s no major storm in the forecast? So frustrating!
