We will not need too much popcorn,,,,,,,,,,,I'm going out on a limb and saying this will be a short thread. There are only so many ways to say Havana has poor service and poor food OR good service and good food. Right?

I suggest you go to Bonifay and see for yourself. Remember everyone has different expectations when visiting a restaurant.

We went to Bonifay for the first time this week and had wonderful service, food etc. The manager even came around and chatted with folks (us included) just to make sure we were happy and satisfied. He gets kudos from us for doing that, as well!

Most of us are from different areas of the country, have had the opportunity (and resources) to have "fine" dining. The Villages is really quite new if you think about it, so it's a 'work in progress'. I really can't say we've had any bad experiences here----but then our expectations haven't been set as high---didn't have the resources for the "fine dining" to measure ALL of this by. If it's served in a timely, hot and relatively tasteful way...then we've been satisfied.

It's pretty obvious that there are different expectations when it comes to eating at the "Country Clubs". For the most part, these are not the clubs people think about when they were "up north". IMO, they range from what I would expect at an upscale semi-private club to what I see at muni courses. That, coupled with the apparent inconsistency in food and service, creates the differing opinions on whether the clubs are good or not so good. Some of the clubs are more consistent in food and service and usually garner the most favorable reviews. Others . . . . flip a coin and take your chances.

I remember when I first got here, I was told to avoid Palmer at all costs. Now I read positive reviews. Mallory was terrible for a while, now seems much better. Tierra got terrible reviews for a while. Cane seems to have avoided the swings in fortune. Anyone who went to Havana when it first opened would have been happy. I remember a nice prime rib special. They also had a nice lunch sandwich menu one summer that disappeared, perhaps because so many liked it??

This time of year I don't think anyone in management at these clubs really cares. They have more business than they can handle. Reality hits May through September when all they have is us frogs. Treat me well in the high season and you'll see me in the summer. Treat me poorly in the winter and you won't see me when you need me.

AND in these country club restaurants.......on the right side of the menu, the prices are quite easy on the pocketbook. It is nothing like most country club prices and many are quite decent food for very moderate price. Always love to eat an Glenview, Cane and Mallory and Lopez for special events, because it's pricier as is Palmer.

Havana....is good and bad in turns. They get themselves together for Friday and Saturday night...but sometimes it's great and sometimes not. If you have a great veteran cook in the kitchen and you know how to train servers....and the place is clean...what else is there? I can't figure out why this can't happen.

If you have a bad meal, remember you can eat again, just a few hours later. Not the end of the world.

Heh-heh!!

Then again, you've got the other possible combinations: good food and poor service, etc. Plus throw in day of week, lunch/dinner........this could go on for a while!

.
That's the key,you get decent food at very moderate prices in TV.With the prices you pay here, it's a "you get what you pay for" scenario. The country club prices at home are ridiculous compared to TV. When i get a meal in TV that is not up to my expectations ,i am alot more forgiving and less vocal than i am back home.

Most CC's seem to be consistently inconsistent.

What kind of prices are we talking at these clubs? Any menus available to post? When we were down last year I saw ads in The Sun for $10.99 Sunday Brunches. What can you expect at that price?

Interesting review from Google.

"I'm 26, but I like to come here and pretend that I'm 66. I take advantage of the awesome happy hour deals, listen to the live Jimmy Buffett covers and eat an enjoyable, cheap meal. The decor is super cute and the place is kept up well (as is the case with anything the Morse family does). The servers are charming and helpful and the food is better than most in the area. In short, go for the atmosphere, drinks and food... in that order."
and this......
"Top shelf from the minute we walked in. Happy hour all day. Manager and staff do what ever it takes to keep customers happy! Food excellent. Beautiful deck overlooking golf course! We will deffenitely be back!"
