Had dinner this evening at Glenview. First time and we have lived here in The Villages for just about two years.
A very enjoyable evening, food was good, staff very nice and friendly, all four in our party was more than pleased.
Will definitely go back in the near future.

Maybe you golfers need to take up tennis to get good service at Glenview. I bet tennis players don't have this problem

I'm sorry. I thought Glenview was a restaurant that served the Public and that anyone who walked in the front door would be a priority. There's the sense of intitlement I suggested.
Wonder why we never see "The Red Hats", or other clubs who eat out in larger groups, on here belly-aching about waiting for their whole group to arrive before being seated?

My group, The Villages Orchestra, goes out for lunch the second Tuesday of each month after practice. We always go to Glenview because it's not far from Laurel Manor where we practice and they'll set up a large table for us. We always call ahead with a head count about 90 minutes before we start arriving and are seated as we straggle in. The food is always good, served in a timely manor and the server will put pitchers of coke on the table for refills. It works well for us.

I always love to go to Glenview. In fact I have not had bad service in any of the restaurants in or around TV. I have seen some bad behavior on the part of restaurant patrons. EVERYWHERE here.

Servers can't help if food is held up. Servers can't add things back to menus that have been removed. Servers can't change happy hour practices or drink prices.

I am a pretty good cook but not a gourmet. I am satisfied with the not wonderful food at decent prices, but I have never lived in New York City, just visited there.

In fact after being dusted down this morning. I don't think I need to post here anymore.

A couple of comments about the last few sentences:

3rd last sentence - Right, only management can address those issues. Don't however understand this comment in the context of the post you are responding to.

2nd last sentence - No idea what your New York City comment relates to

As far as seating groups, Cane Garden will NOT seat you till the entire group arrives, at least that is what happened to me..

Played a foursome at Glenview yesterday. We had our wives join us for dinner afterwards. Not my first choice but they have a wine special on Wed and one of the golfers wanted it so we agreed reluctantly. I have to say it is the worst dinner I have had at any country club here, including Havanna. My wife's was inedible, (braised lamb shank) and mine was all batter,over cooked (grouper). As far as I'm concerned I will not be back. My wife has said they have a great lunch special so all I can think of is the chef working days needs to take over the night service cause that person cooking at night doesn't have a clue. Yes the food was returned and my wife's was taken off the bill. I had no problem with the service at all..

As a footnote the idea that someone would actually take their own flavoring to a restaurant and make lemonade for free is just plain disgusting. If anyone in my party ever did this I would NOT be eating out with them again.

As a former server at one of our country clubs, I can tell you that the Crystal Light occasions happen quite frequently. And then there's the chewing gum that's left on the plate or on a utensil. Not to mention the diabetic supplies that are left on the table for the server to throw out. My personal favorite is the woman whose "Depends" must have overflowed, and left a wet seat.

But the worst thing that I've encountered is the attitudes of some of you villagers.... like I'm beneath you, cause I'm either a server or because I'm working ---HEY!!! I AM A VILLAGER TOO. MAYBE I WORK CAUSE I NEED THE MONEY, OR I NEED TO FILL MY DAY WITH DOING SOMETHING OTHER THAN GOLF
So, quit looking down your nose at me, because I could be your neighbor.

Having been involved in restaurant management, I offer a simple solution. You all have made plans to golf, 2,3 maybe 4 foursomes. Great, you planned. Now simply speak to restaurant management, requesting seating. A good(if not very good) manager would know that all 12 would not finish at the same time. Upon your arrival the host/hostes should ask the first group if you wish to be seated, then seat the remainder as they arrive, or wait for the entire party. Seating upon arrival would be best. It's known as a pending reservation. Any manager worth his salt would know that 12 happy golfers means repeat revenue. I hope some who read this are restaurant managers. This respect is a two way street.

Can you elaborate somewhat on what you mean by "attitudes"? I like a smiling server with a pleasant but business-like presence. I am not there to be your buddy. I do not see a need to discuss my golf game with you nor what your favorite television show happens to be.

I pleasantly give my food and drink order and then get back to my conversation with my friends.

You serve and check back once and present the check. I pay it with a tip around 20 percent and we exchange goodbyes.

Do I have it right or not?

Unfortunately, we had dinner at Glenview tonight. What has happened to that place?? The last time we were there (Spring), we had a terrible strip steak that tasted like it came from Ponderosa. The waiter told us that there had been a recent change in vendors, and a lot of people had complained about the steak. Deciding to give it one more try, we went for the twin lobster special tonight. It was awful. The lobster was cold, undercooked and tasteless. The veggies were also cold. I sent my lobster back to be recooked, and waited ten minutes to have it brought back. It was unimproved, and my potato was now missing! Needless to say, we won't be back, but I have to ask...whatever happened to Glenview???

I have never had a bad meal at Glenview. The food is consistently good and so is the service. I have never had their lobster special, though.

For excellent lobster tails in The Villages, go to Hacienda Hills club or to Lopez club. I highly recommend both places.

They have ads in the paper for Help Wanted for servers, cooks etc. and the ads have been there for weeks. Apparently they can't find good workers, or they are impossible to work for. That would be a management problem.

Reading the Want Ads and seeing ads in for weeks is a good way to know who is short-staffed or who's losing employees because the bosses are clueless as to the customers' expectations, and don't care one whit about the backing from management that the worker needs.

If the cooks are bad, lazy and/or don't show up for work and the kitchen is slow and backed up, the servers get the brunt of it from the customer.....and often get no understanding from the boss.

Everybody graduating from high school or college ought to work as a server for awhile as a training ground for entering the business world....you have to develop mature, wily negotiating and appeasement skills to keep demanding customers happy, and to keep dumb bosses on your side to back you when a customer is totally out of line with scheming, for example, to steal a whole meal (like sending back an expensive entree 60% eaten so they can get a "replacement" one......which they plan to then take home; or to get the entree taken off the bill and get it for free).
