Default i have been treated the same way Army Guy but not in The Villages.

know the feeling Army Guy, which is one of the reasons i want to get out of the condo. complex. I'am in now in Stuart Fl. Had a flood in my Apartment due to a toilet hose comming loose. As I am rehabing my kitchen and putting the old sawed up kitches in the dumptster. The husband of the condo ass. pres. drives up in his car and with finger wagging in my face says you cant fill up the dumptster. Normally i would try to work out a compromize with him but with the treatening manner he adopted I asked him who died and left you boss? His reply "we" will fix you. Next day i get a call from central management that i have my car parked in the wrong space. Day after that i need a extra key for the back door. Found out from friends that a lot of men resent me ( a single male age 67 that looks 55) being in a place where the average is 75-80 yrs.
Now I'am at the point that i have retained a lawyer just to keep them away from me so i can finish the kitchen and get this place back on the market. Just bought a lot in the village of St. Charles and as soon as i can sell this place in Stuart I'am building and will be out of hear, even if i have to give it away.

How old are you? Maybe there's a reason they are asking.

Having been in the exercise mode for almost 40 years with 33 of them as a member of Jack Lalanne's/Ballys, the secret to a happy successful workout is to find what works for you. If you go at peak times, chances are that you are going to run into an occasional rough spot which is common when a lot of people try to do the same thing at the same time. Here in TV the majority of gym folks go in the AM so as not to impact the rest of their day and that is understandable. My deal is that I pick those times during the day, all in the PM, when the crowd is substantially less and I have a lot less chance of being stressed out by someone else. Granted it governs what I do with the rest of the day, but at least I have a workout and feel totally relaxed afterward without having to wind down from some upheaval due to someone else.

Irish, I am 51.

homeball, I agree with you totally, plus we don't like to have to "fight" for equipment. We tried different times and like the 1 PM time as the lunch crowd has left and we are before the afternoon wave when we finish, as it takes us about an hour and a half to do our routines.

Kathie, you go girl!

Army Guy, just hang in. There are always people who will complain about anything. I always workout at Mulberry and the folks there are a good bunch. Stay with the ab workout because once they go it's hard to get them back. Hope to meet you in Jan or Feb.

I went to Colony at between 2 and 3pm and it wasn't bad. There were a few treadmills available and also had no problem in the machine area and with the weights and benching. Actually, the people were very nice, they are always encouraging me cause this doesn't come easy for me, but I'm giving it my all. But as I left around 4pm, it did start to get a little busy.

I'm sorry Army Guy that you experienced this problem and I hope that was just a person having a bad day and that you never see them again. I, like RSHoffer, have not experienced any problems there in the past and of course, NO ONE ASKED ME IF I WAS OLD ENOUGH TO BE THERE, LOL......

During our recent stay at our villa, twice when my wife and I were at the Fitness Center at Colony, we had this happen. Each time, the people that confronted us treated us this way. The first time was when me and the wife got in the very corner area of the Fitness Room on the mats they provide at the center to do some ab exercises. The area we use for only 12 minutes, (yes I have timed it!) is 5 ft by 6 ft and is in the very back corner. We were told by several we were in their way and blocking one of the machines. I first thought what the heck difference does it make, if I am blocking the machine versus if I was using it for 12 minutes? Yet I times them the next day and they constantly were suing machines for 40+ minutes each! But they basically told us, we didn't belong there in "THEIR" gym. We saw them several times over the course of our stay at TV and each time they gave us that attitude. The next time, is the best one, me and the wife again were in our same little area and we had just used two of the hand weights. We put them down for a second and were preparing to do a 60 second stretch before using the hand weights again. This woman comes up to us and asks if we are done with them and I told her no that we were using them one more time after we stretched for 60 sec, but then they were free to her. Well she proceeds to walk over to the Attendent Counter and tells the Attendent about it!! Next thing we know the Attendent comes over while we are stretching and I had to tell her the same thing!
It all boils down to we do not get respect for being a Village resident cause we don't look old enough!!
I know we should not complain about that!

Army Guy
I was 50 and my child bride was a mere 46 when we bought. Yes I get the comments all the time about being young, but I do not feel I have ever been mistreated by anyone due to my age.

Well all this really proves one thing: The Villages will let you live here if you have the money no matter what age you are . My wife and I were 52 and 50 when we bought our first home in 2003. We got the looks then and sometimes now too. Heck we love gettting carded! lol
As far are rudeness goes, that unfortunately can happen no matter what the age.

I was told when we inquired for our first LSV last Feb that they make exceptions for the 55 yr rule, that it is not linked to just money. I was told since I am retiring military, and we had no children, I qualified. Cause I told them if I could not buy, then don't need the LSV.
Since then I have been told, that it is something about the tax law, and adult community rules. Something about they can allow 20% of the total population be under 55.

When are you all going to learn economics rules all. This is reference to age but there is a 20percent clause in the state of Florida

I don't believe it's about tax law, "Florida" law, or even The Villages law. It's part of the Federal Fair Housing Act that guards against discrimination on the basis of race, color, etc., or familial status (children in the household).

However, housing that meets the definition of "housing for older persons" is exempt from this law, provided that one person is 55 or older in at least 80% of the occupied units and the developer adheres to a policy that demonstrates intent to house persons 55 or older.

Hi Army Guy,
Please excuse me if I don't understand your post. I'm confused. Guests of Villagers can use the fitness centers. The last time our daughter (who is in her twenties) visited us, the folks at Colony cottage told us that she could pay by the day or pay by the week to use the fitness center.
Maybe the woman behind the desk thought you were paying customers?
