I feel that too many folks on both sides of this issue have legitimate points. Using the analogy of sunlight/uv, any spf rating would be better than none at preventing sunburn/skin cancer. Therefore, any mask should be better than none. In the effort to reduce exposure and transfer of any contaminants, in either direction, any mask is better than none. By using sunscreen I am not submitting to ideologues, I am simply trying to lessen my exposure. It has nothing to do with fear or panic. It is simply taking a precautionary measure, like looking both ways before crossing the street. Getting hit crossing the street ruins the day for the one hit, the one that hit him/her as well as the ones that have to clean up the mess.
Stay well and safe.

When was the last time medical scientist ever dealt with Convid-19 to know exactly how to deal with this particular corona virus? Wasn't it top medical people and advisors from the World Health Organization (WHO) that said you can NOT transmit the virus from people to people...

IMO, many posters who advocate that everyone should wear a mask are missing the point. The mask protects the wearer, no one else. Therefore if you are out and about and wearing a mask and you encounter a non mask wearer and that individual coughs or sneezes within your level of comfort distance the mask you are wearing will better protect you the wearer from possible infection. So those who advocate wearing a mask should wear one but should stop thinking that everyone wearing a mask will reduce the chance of getting an infection of any type

You are incorrect, check your science. Yes, they are saltwater pools, but in a saltwater pool, the chlorine is generated not directly added: “A saltwater pool uses a salt chlorine generator. This means that instead of adding chlorine to the pool water, you add salt, and the generator converts it to chlorine.”

This is directly from the CDC’s website: There is no evidence that the virus that causes COVID-19 can be spread to people through the water in pools, hot tubs, spas, or water play areas. Proper operation and maintenance (including disinfection with chlorine and bromine) of these facilities should inactivate the virus in the water.

The CDC did not start recommending public use of facemasks until late March. From previous experience with other contagious coronaviruses they knew exactly how this one was spread way before that. They also knew about asymptomatic spread before that.

I don't like that "should inactivate"

Default Old wisdom.

It is better to be safe than to be sorry.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

God helps those who help themselves.

Don't throw the baby out with the bath waters.

Going slow also gets us there.

If you want to jump off a cliff like your friends do, go right ahead.

Follow those who have had a reasonable and successful life.

I would rather be in an environment that “should inactivate” the virus vs one that doesn’t. Use of an outdoor pool is still a safer environment than virtually any other activity.

2. Zero risk will not be achieved until herd immunity or production of 100% effective vaccine. (backed by science linked in OP)

3. Virus is going to keep rolling around the world for two years or so (unless 100% vaccine) so be prepared to stay at home for that amount of time if you believe outdoor sports like golf, softball etc are too risky.

4. You are a hypocrite if you proceed to shame others for outdoor sports when you yourself enter supermarkets, which is far more risky.
Thinking about making T shirts with this list to wear to the pool

I prefer thinking reduces risk, and the probability seems high for this one when you add the dilution factor of water in the pool.

I agree and think swimming is safe. I want royalties on the tee shirt.
