Firearms, even with a conceal permit, are forbidden in schools (both public and private), state and federal parks, anywhere where alcohol is served, pharmacies, post offices, and all government (federal, state, and municipal) buildings.

I would remind everybody that living in the Villages does not shield you from real life. Don't forget there was a drug related homicide in The Villages a few years ago (in a private home). I was called for jury duty for that murder trial.
There have been dozens of home invasions, many of them while the homeowners were present. Life in the Villages is wonderful, but please don't ever think that you are immune from real crimes being committed against you. Most people choose not to carry a gun. Those that do are within their rights and have a slight upper hand when faced with a life threatening situation. JLK |

I believe handguns are now allowed in National Parks. I may be wrong, but I think that was recently announced. |

I don't carry a concealed weapon and don't plan to, but I do believe it's your right to. Having said that, I don't want to see everyone "packing heat" either. Now I can't speak for Redwitch, but I certainly understand her situation. A woman entering to inspect or maintain multiple homes everyday alone has every right to be able to protect herself. There are sicko's everywhere.

I know that FL and Va have reciproca laws covering concealed weapons. As a VA resident if I travel to FL I can conceal my weapon but when I go through NC I have to have it out and visible. In VA you could not take a gun in an establishment that serves alcohol. That law was changed this year. You may take a gun in you just can't consume alcohol.
I wouldn't imagine that you would need a gun out and about in TV but you never know. The Town centers are public and so are the main roadways. I don't carry my gun everytime I go out. If I travel alone or am out at night I do put it in the car. I'm not sure how the gun in Wal-Mart went off. My gun has a SAFETY. |

Before we moved here, I was told by a friend who has lived here for many, many years, that there are some thefts, break-ins, etc, but not on the same scale as outside of the community. While that isn't definitive proof, I do realize that no area is immune from crime. My neighbor had a delivery of aluminum for her new cage arrive while she was away. Her housesitter was awakened in the night by noises outside. It was discovered that thieves had tried to steal the material. At daylight, many pieces of the unassembled structure were found on the golf course hole her house faces. Living here I feel much safer than where I did live previously. Neighbors are more aware of "different" in the neighborhood, they watch out for each other, help others, willingly offer time and energy to make their friends and neighbors feel happy and cared for. There seems no other place quite so nice.. ![]()

There will be no changing minds of people who are afraid here.
I see no reason to be afraid here. Or to carry a gun. |

I have an acquaintance here in the Villages whose wife thought that there was an intruder in the house. She ended up shooting the vacuum cleaner. I guess it shifted after someone put it a way.
I would think that a security level can of pepper spray would be as good as a handgun in most situations you would encounter in the Villages. Last edited by Taltarzac725; 07-11-2010 at 02:21 PM. |
