If it bothers you to find dog crap at your local postal station, then move to one of the new neighborhoods south of Route 44.

Some of the older neighborhoods down there, like Monarch Grove, ban dogs from the activities at a postal station, but not from the postal station itself.

The newer neighborhoods, like Bradford and St. Catherine, ban dogs from both the postal station and from all other activities, like shuffleboard.

Anyone who does not believe me can go there and read the signs.

If my dog can't play shuffleboard, I'm not moving there!

Silly me, I thought the Postal Stations were the places you go to pick up your mail...

How Does Florida Define Criminal Trespass?
According to Florida Statutes Section 810.08, et seq, criminal trespass is the willful entry into (or remaining on) a property without the express or implied permission of the owner.

Florida recognizes two specific types of trespass, trespass in a structure or conveyance, and trespass on property other than a structure or conveyance.

Trespass in a Structure or Conveyance
The crime of trespass in a structure or conveyance occurs when a person willfully enters or remains in any structure (such as a building or dwelling) or conveyance without being authorized. It also applies to situations when a person had been authorized or licensed to be on the property, but was told to leave and remained anyway.

This is generally considered a second-degree misdemeanor which can result in spending up to 60 days in jail. However, it can be elevated to a first-degree misdemeanor (which can result in spending up to one year in jail) when someone else is present during the trespass or to a third-degree felony (which can result in spending up to five years in prison) when a trespasser is armed with a firearm or dangerous weapon.

Trespass on Property Other Than a Structure or Conveyance
Trespass on property other than a structure or conveyance occurs when a person willfully enters (or remains in) any property other than a structure or conveyance without being authorized, licensed, or invited.

This is generally considered a first-degree misdemeanor which can result in spending up to one year in jail. However, it can be elevated to a third-degree felony (which can result in spending up to five years in prison) when a trespasser is armed with a firearm or dangerous weapon.

How Must the Prosecution Prove Trespassing?
To be convicted of Florida trespassing offenses, the prosecution must generally prove that the trespass was willful, in other words, that the trespasser knew they were trespassing.

In some situations, a trespasser may have thought they had an implied invitation to remain on the property or they were not specifically told to leave. Courts will look at the facts and circumstances surrounding the situation and determine what a reasonable person would have thought in the situation.

There are many legal defenses to Florida trespassing charges, including:

No communication to leave the property
Lack of intent
Lack of notice or improper notice
Express or implied invitations to enter or remain
Withdrawing the request to leave
An experienced Florida trespassing lawyer can determine whether someone was trespassing on a property and what legal defenses might apply to the situation.

There is no requirement for a "No Trespassing" sign. However, it can be a defense in a trial that there was no sign but the lack of a sign does not mean an automatic not guilty verdict.

In Osceola Hills where we live, it is also a place where dogs are welcome to crap.

In the more modern areas like Citrus Grove, dogs are forbidden at the postal stations.

Thank you, Number 10 GI. After reading your post there is no way anyone should still believe they are entitled to use anyone else's property as a toilet for their dog (s).
Simple decent responsibility and respect for your neighbor's property is all that should be necessary.

I think your first sentence is a mistake. Dogs are not necessarily "welcome to crap" there, but for whatever reasons irresponsible, self entitled, disrespectful dog owners just do it because no one has told them they shouldn't.

I don't give a darn if it is on a leash or not. The fact that it allows it at the post office where people must go to get their mail or on your property is the height of disrespect. Where a dog goes you can expect to also have unhealthy bacteria. We had a dog for many many years and would never think of being this dis respectable or inconsiderate. It should be a law and a fine for anyone using the Post Office or private property for dog walking.
Disrespectful is putting it mildly ! Had many dogs when the kids were growing up, so did nearly all our neighbors no matter where we lived, various states, communities, but THIS, in THE VILLAGES... it's beyond anything we've ever seen. Never in the communities we lived in as a family, with amenities of a golf course, club house, and several pools, did ANYONE EVER take their dog to the club house area, pool area, etc. to "relieve" itself. It's EVERY day at our mail box station, they bring them in strollers, in golf carts, they walk them there, anywhere but their own yard.... any neighbors yard will do (as long as it's a couple blocks away. They stand in the street and urge the dog into the yards of people they don't know. Right now the smell is not real bad, but in the summer months, it's more than anyone should have to endure as the pool is right next to their "dumping ground".... all over the grass, saw one couple with two young kids, probably grand kids. As kids do, they got off the golf cart bare foot as gram got the mail ... sure enough, just innocent kids, not running wild at all, just enjoying the warm climate, innocently walking in a small grassy area by the mail boxes ! I "think" it was probably meant to be an attractive area... not a filthy dump of dog dropping and yellow patches. But the summer months are the most unbelievable of all....some pet owners actually do pick up he droppings and put it in plastic bags...but take it to THEIR HOME and put it in their garbage..... never ! Many can not read apparently, "DO NOT dispose of dog feces in this container" , maybe have no idea what "feces" means ? ... can anyone imagine what it must be like to be the person who has to CLEAN THOSE every night ? The SMELL in the pool area on a hot summer day, coming out of those waste receptacles and off the piles on the surrounding grass. Always been surprised even the villages administration puts up with it, but, they can't act as dog police of course ! Just sad, such a nice community, and it takes all kinds as they say !

Really ???? LUCKY PEOPLE, sure wish that was the rule at EVERY postal station adjoining a POOL especially, some days in summer, we just can't take it, can really get over powering. Have never in all these years seen the villages administration take any actions to even try to stop it. For a couple years they posted a "please do not put dog feces in these containers" but of course, none of the dog people wanted to gather up their plastic bags of dung and tote it to their own garbage in their homes... who would ?

My wife and I do... Every single time...

And I see many people walking their dog in the neighborhood "toting plastic bags of dung"...

At our postal station, dogs are definitely "welcome to crap" there. I saw one guy who would let his dog off his leash so he could crap wherever he chose, while the owner sat in his golf cart looking thru his mail.

Yes, in a VERY firm voice I told him his dog had to be on a leash.

I didn't say anything about his dog crapping at the postal station because there is no sign forbidding dogs at our postal station like there is in the newer areas.

I too find it a bit strange - why I stopped going to the farmers markets - it's a dog show. (why does anyone think a dog wants to walk on hot pavement?) while the place is supposed to be for healthy folks who want good produce and other sundries.
