My "other half" is an avid golfer and he hasn't mentioned the dog issue on the courses BUT he does say there are "SOME" (emphasis on some) that really don't know golf ediquette.
That being said...I'd like to ask what about the folks who walk their dogs at the mailboxes and rec areas??? We've seen folks cart their animals up and take them specifically to the grassy areas and leave once they've done their business. THAT doesn't seem right neither!!! |

You certainly DO NOT want to be within 200 yrds of any fairway when I am addressing a golf ball! Just saying...

Hi, this is 73Goat's wife. This is the first post I've written, so I'm probably entering my post incorrectly. Anyway, we just bought a beautiful home in Pennecamp and we're very excited about becoming full time villagers; however, now I'm really worried. We have a 4yr. old Binchon that we love to take on walks in the morning and the evening. It's a habit that my husband and I look forward to everyday. This gives us a teasured time to exercise and talk with each other. I'm confused, where can you walk your dog in the villages? In our Virginia home community, we have a beautifully landscaped piece of neighborhood property across our neigberhood steet where all our neighbors walk their dogs. All the dogs are leashed and everyone uses a bag to pick up he doggie poop, but we all freely let our dogs pee on the landscaping since it is not on anyone's lot. I can't remember if there is a strip of grass between the sidewalk and the street in the villages. If so, that does not belong to the homeowner. Is everyone saying a dog cannot pee on this strip of land? Is there anywhere in the villages that my husband and I can walk..even without the dog...I mean a beautiful landscaped walking trail? Walking on pavement for half a mile is not good for our joints. If we walk our dog in the neighborhood will we meet with hostility and suspicion even if he did all his business at home?

Downeaster,
Thanks for the reply! We're planning a birdcage with some very nice landscaping inside the enclosed area, so that should also help.

Maybe I'm wrong... but I don't think the problem is the walking the dogs on the course.... as much as them being unleashed and the owners not picking up after them.
Or... did I misunderstand the thread?

Angie: Dogs are not allowed on the golf courses at any time, even if they are on leash.
Goat73’s Wife: You are allowed to walk your dog on any of the “common” or "public" areas. Those would include the streets, the sidewalks, the strips of grass next to sidewalks that you were talking about and the grassy areas around the pools/rec centers/mailbox areas. As long as you don’t let your dog get onto a homeowner’s lot, you will be fine. My dogs do their business at home too, but even so, I don’t let them wander onto the property of others during our walks. In most cases, all they want to do is sniff around, but I still won’t let them do it. To me, it is trespassing, no more acceptable than a person walking on someone’s else’s lawn. This can make it difficult to walk them during the hot months, because the street is too hot for their paws if they can’t hop onto grass every so often. During those times, I load them into the golf cart and take them somewhere with shade and/or grassy “common” areas. I think they like the golf cart ride as much, if not more than the walk. |

I personally agree with you. I don't care where dog owners walk their dogs but they should be leashed, kept off residents' property and preferably do their business on their own property. If they have an "accident" on public or golf course property the resulting deposit should be picked up, bagged and taken home for disposal. Unfortunately there many dog owners who do not agree with me. |
