Default Dog Walkers

Alien, I hope your decision to move here is not based solely on who does or does not love your lab. I re-read the posts and what I heard residents saying is that they were upset with thoughtless neighbors . It could be becuase of the action or lack thereof concerning cleaning up after their dog or a vehicle that leaks oil all over the place......There are rules here and if a propsective buyer does not like rules then he/she is not going to like living here. The majority of people I have come in contact with are very obliging and considerate.

Just like any place on earth, there are some folks who don't like animals, or are afraid of animals. But here in The Villages, the majority of people are animal and dog LOVERS! So, please don't let these complaints sway your decision. Come for a visit with your dogs and you will see for yourself that this place is paradise for all of us dog lovers.
What she said.

(or HE said, I never know from post to post whether it is the girl K9lover or the boy)

And...you need to come here and form your own opinion.

But we do love dogs and we do like our rules...so come and see how nice we are.

I am smiling to myself about how pleased you are gonna be.

For me, anyplace that doesn't love dogs cannot be paradise. Glad I read this post before giving serious consideration to a purchase.
Alien, I totally agree with you. Any place that doesn't love dogs cannot be a paradise. That is why TV is great! We bought in The Villages because they allow more than one dog, and they allow large dogs. Many retirement communities only allow one small dog. There are way more people here that love dogs than dislike them. And the dogs love riding in golf carts and going to the dog parks.

This is a very dog friendly community. Almost everyone I know loves animals, and many have multiple pets (with indoor cats, hard for people to complain.)
So have no fear, you can buy here without worries. For the most part, Village People love dogs.

You will find a number of threads get "lots of comments". Even though we won't be at TV for another 18 months or so, I know that my dogs will be welcomed, because we are responsible owners, keep our dogs under control and abide by the rules (every city has rules). As another post stated, don't judge TV by any angry posts here. You, and your lab, will be welcomed. It is always the few people who chose not to follow the well publicized rules that gets the majority upset. It is "paradise" because of well defined rules and the vast majority of the 79,000 residents who make it that way.

The permanent residents didn't adopt the term "frogs" to be cute. I too will only leave TV when I "crock"!!!

Come join a beautiful, well maintained community of happy people from across America and a few foreign countries as well. It is truly a melting pot of people from all walks of life and all economic levels with only one goal - enjoy life to the fullest, make great friends and neighbors and who enjoy living in "DisneyWorld for Adults"!!

I appreciate all the comments and I agree that responsible dog owners are normally welcome anywhere. I'm sure there are lots of great people in the Villages, even if they don't like dogs!

Our labrador Holly loves to run and catch frisbies. We do this at least twice each day and it does me as much good to watch her as it does to satisfy her need to retrieve.

Given the small lot sizes, where would Holly and I go to throw the frisby? Are there any dog areas where they can be off leash for exercise?

Thanks in advance!

(By the way Gracie, we are from Middletown)

Several dog parks inside The Villages and one in particular just outside The Villages that I use on a daily basis. It is Doggie Doo Run and the cost is $25 per month for one dog. Large park with separated areas for small dogs and for large dogs. Lots of shaded areas to sit while your dog plays. Leash only needed to get in the park. The dogs can run free once inside the fenced in areas

Anyone have any pics of Dogie Doo Run? I've never seen it. Or can you give an address so I can Google it.

I see Schotzyb and Tal at Doggie Doo Run Run all the time! We also use DDRR daily for our 70 lb dog and our 11 lb dog. We pay $30 per month for two dogs! It is a fabulous dog park, at least 10 fenced acres. Your dog can romp and play and catch frisbees. You can get exercise or sit in a hanging swing under a tree and watch the world go by. Or talk to all the other wonderful dog owners.

The Daily Sun has put reminders that walking is not allowed on golf courses, but they put these reminders in the golf section...most of these people probably aren't golfers. We've even had bicycles and motorcycles drive by our lanai. Any suggestions on how to remedy this problem.
We realize this is a few years old message, however, when we did the search this morning to check whether or not "just average evening strollers" are allowed to walk on the golf courses, meaning the golf cart path...or whatever, it brought us to this thread..........we totally can understand the folks not wanting to have strange dogs "going" near their homes which back up to the golf courses , nor golfers having to deal with it on the courses, but our question is:

Since we will be renting a home on a golf course, are we allowed to walk in back of the home? Is it really true that no one can walk on the golf course....not even the edge of it? We are non golfers. No dogs.
Thanks for any advice out there.

Walking on the golf course can be very dangerous. I know it looks and seems like a nice place to walk, but a golf ball or golf cart can cause serious injury. Not only that, but it is distracting to the golfers. If you mean walking at night after the course has closed, I don't think that is allowed either. It is like going into a business after the doors have been locked. I personally don't see anything wrong with walking on the cart path after hours. I hope someone tells me if it is an official rule that the cart paths are off-limits to pedesterian traffic. My husband said it is trespassing.

There is a booklet at the pro shops titled "good golf guide". Good to read especially inside back flap where it mentions "no jogging, walking, biking, fishing on courses" and "pets not permitted on course". Also a wealth of info related to good golf practices, allowable clothing, etc. A must read for new golfers.

Hope this helps..........

Thank you. We understand. Makes perfect sense.

Thank you....we were just wondering. Appreciate it.

This way, in the future, if we did choose to buy on a golf course, after renting on one, we'd know to warn any visiting grandchildren "in advance" that it's off limits. I can empathize with the homeowners sitting on their lanais not wanting strangers walking by day and night.

Angry Dog Waste

The dog waste problem is OUT-A HAND IMO, I own a home on a corner lot and am beginning to think I provide this "extra grass" as a special place for dogs to relieve themselves, this hasn't been a big issue until recently, whilst trimming my saga palm and down on my knees, I noticed a "all to familiar smell"............appears this particular dog had diarehea (spelling?), needless to say, the waste was impossible to pick up with the ole plastic bag, so the dog owner decided to leave me a little surprise, I can't remember being this mad for a long, long time. SOOOOOOO, all you DOG OWNERS. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE..........if your dog is in special need and has a digestive problem, take him/ her to a dog park, postal station, golf course or anywhere except MY YARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
