My "other half" is an avid golfer and he hasn't mentioned the dog issue on the courses BUT he does say there are "SOME" (emphasis on some) that really don't know golf ediquette.

That being said...I'd like to ask what about the folks who walk their dogs at the mailboxes and rec areas??? We've seen folks cart their animals up and take them specifically to the grassy areas and leave once they've done their business. THAT doesn't seem right neither!!!

Exclamation

You certainly DO NOT want to be within 200 yrds of any fairway when I am addressing a golf ball! Just saying...

(Even though I do not have one at the moment!) I think Bare and Susan have great ideas. I would love to see a some kind of dog park in every community. We have a pool and rec center in every community. Back in Illinois, my daughter was years out of school and we still payed taxes to have the best schools around. I don't see the difference. If there is a small fee, I don't think Dog Lovers would complain. But, I do think the Developer should provide it. Dogs are family members and should be treated as such. This is indeed a Dog Lover Community and I really don't get why the Developer didn't allow for this. I think it would solve everyone's problem, even mine. Not owning a dog yet (long story) I would love to walk down to a neighborhood dog park and enjoy all the doggy energy going on. I vote for Dog Parks!

I LOVE your smiley face/ puppy kisses mimimation!! I would be happy to see some doggie areas!

I patiently sat in my front yard with a water hose turned on (but not spraying). The second the dog stopped to leave me his present, I sprayed him. Three nights of this and that dog would circle around my house.

It's not the most fun thing to do, but it does work and if the owners don't like it, I'd suggest to them they walk their dog somewhere other than on a golf course. Maybe you can get a neighborhood brigade to do this. Poor dog will never want to walk in your direction again.

It really is a shame that some people just can't be responsible. It shouldn't be our job to get them to do what is right, but it frequently is.

Hi, this is 73Goat's wife. This is the first post I've written, so I'm probably entering my post incorrectly. Anyway, we just bought a beautiful home in Pennecamp and we're very excited about becoming full time villagers; however, now I'm really worried. We have a 4yr. old Binchon that we love to take on walks in the morning and the evening. It's a habit that my husband and I look forward to everyday. This gives us a teasured time to exercise and talk with each other.
I'm confused, where can you walk your dog in the villages? In our Virginia home community, we have a beautifully landscaped piece of neighborhood property across our neigberhood steet where all our neighbors walk their dogs. All the dogs are leashed and everyone uses a bag to pick up he doggie poop, but we all freely let our dogs pee on the landscaping since it is not on anyone's lot.

I can't remember if there is a strip of grass between the sidewalk and the street in the villages. If so, that does not belong to the homeowner. Is everyone saying a dog cannot pee on this strip of land? Is there anywhere in the villages that my husband and I can walk..even without the dog...I mean a beautiful landscaped walking trail? Walking on pavement for half a mile is not good for our joints.

If we walk our dog in the neighborhood will we meet with hostility and suspicion even if he did all his business at home?

I am not currently a dog owner. However, I have a neighbor who has two small dogs. She walks them around her house and yard until they have "done their business" and then a walk around the block. No one is hostile towards her. In fact, she is admired as a responsible dog owner.

Downeaster,
Thanks for the reply! We're planning a birdcage with some very nice landscaping inside the enclosed area, so that should also help.

Maybe I'm wrong... but I don't think the problem is the walking the dogs on the course.... as much as them being unleashed and the owners not picking up after them.

Or... did I misunderstand the thread?

Angie: Dogs are not allowed on the golf courses at any time, even if they are on leash.

Goat73’s Wife: You are allowed to walk your dog on any of the “common” or "public" areas. Those would include the streets, the sidewalks, the strips of grass next to sidewalks that you were talking about and the grassy areas around the pools/rec centers/mailbox areas. As long as you don’t let your dog get onto a homeowner’s lot, you will be fine.

My dogs do their business at home too, but even so, I don’t let them wander onto the property of others during our walks. In most cases, all they want to do is sniff around, but I still won’t let them do it. To me, it is trespassing, no more acceptable than a person walking on someone’s else’s lawn. This can make it difficult to walk them during the hot months, because the street is too hot for their paws if they can’t hop onto grass every so often. During those times, I load them into the golf cart and take them somewhere with shade and/or grassy “common” areas. I think they like the golf cart ride as much, if not more than the walk.

Angie, the original post dealt with the safety of walking dogs on golf courses. It then segued into being unleashed, not picking up, etc. They are all valid points and we would hope they will be heeded by dog owners.

I personally agree with you. I don't care where dog owners walk their dogs but they should be leashed, kept off residents' property and preferably do their business on their own property. If they have an "accident" on public or golf course property the resulting deposit should be picked up, bagged and taken home for disposal.

Unfortunately there many dog owners who do not agree with me.

I believe I have read that rule more then once. People pay big bucks for those views and it should be respected.

I betcha most dog owners do agree with you. I highly recommend Dog Parks. A good way to exercise your pet among fellow dog lovers!
