Easy for you....you wouldn't have to lift him. He can reach all by himself.

That is true. Now we need to focus on not letting toddler grandchildren poop in the pool or sit on tables with their diapers on. Or six year olds put their fingers up their nose and handle the menu's and a lot of other gross stuff.

That is just life folks, kids and dogs and old people and young people and not all acting spiffily. It is called the human condition and we old-er ones have tooooooo much time on our hands.

Now everyone go out and play. It's a beautiful day in The Villages.

In this case I'll agree with you.

Default Pet Smart

Pet Smart sells several carry around water drinking containers, one hooks onto your belt.

I agree. I've never seen such a thing with people and their dogs as I do here. I expect you are right red chariot. Their children are gone and now the pets have replaced the children and are treated like children. It's the dardest thing. What happened to pets just being an animal and treated as such? Bringing them to restaurants, putting them in strollers, caring them around like Paris Hilton does her little dog. I understand that people love their pets but they are just that.....pets.

Actually, Happinow, pets are not just pets. To some of us they are a member of the family. Some people understand that, some don't. Regardless, we should all agree to respect each other's viewpoints.

This is a "dog friendly" community. Dogs that you see in strollers are in most case unable to walk properly, are too old, etc. Dogs are not in restaurants. You do see a few, a very few on the restaurant patios where they are allowed. I understand that the behavior of a few does seem to bother you and because of that I'm at a loss as to what you can possibly do to rectify that except to stay indoors. I have yet to see any "Paris Hilton" types here as you say. All I see are a lot of happy seniors enjoying their companions. I'm sorry "happinow" that you are apparently not happy now.

Good observation Happinow,

Apparently just what dog/pet friendly means is not very well understood and is consistently pushed beyond what is reasonable to the average person.

Silly things that don't hurt anyone don't bother me but letting them lapp on the water fountains meant specifically for people is too much.

Dogs are animals no matter what....and these animals do what all animals do sooner or later. Animals should never come before humans no matter what, regardless.

Do whatever you want in your home, smelly dogs on beds and furniture no problem, dog waste on floors etc. no problem. But knowing dogs are being allowed to lapp the water fountains just isn't right no matter how you slice it.

I've had a house dog before for many years so I know about dogs very well and know what they do and also how attached you can become to them, but's let's be sensible about it and realize other people don't always have the same feelings.

Pets are like children/adults, a life force here on earth. I do not consider Mr. Buster a pet or simply A Dog. He is my friend that gives me love and respect every day. Put me in a situation of one pill to save one life:

Mr. Buster
Or
A complaining sarcastic human giving nothing but grief to everyone around

Mr. Buster gets the pill.

I think everybody has the right to treat their pet as they choose, IN THEIR HOME. Drinking out of a public water fountain designed for human beings just doesn't cut it. Happinow and KeepingItREal, I happen to agree with you on your attitude towards pets. I have had pets I'm really close to, but when all is said and done, I drew the line between humans and animals. Obviously, there are many here in The Villages who take the whole pet thing way beyond what we are comfortable with. To each his/her own.

I believe that most people treat their friends, their associates on this planet like they treat their pets.

I think most people are kind to their friends and try to protect them and have a loving attitude toward them. I see no reason to adopt an animal and not cherish and protect it. It certainly makes life harder. Most people who have pets have the same standards for cleanliness and responsibility as others and will think to bring a bottle of water for their pets on a hot day.

I am 74 years old and I have never witnessed with my own eyes anyone letting their dog drink from a drinking fountain so it must be a very RARE instance. I say that many use this forum as a bully pulpit to say mean things to others and cause negative attention to the minority of folks here who are NOT responsible pet owners. There are many on this planet not blessed or cursed with children and they find their house pets to be a warm and fulfilling companion especially in their later years.

I am against LUCY who says "YUCK! Dog Germs!" I have always thought Lucy to be a little brat.

Sounds like an olive branch to me. Nice straight forward post. Thanks Gracie, live long and be happy. I will try to take my own advice and look for the positive in every thread.

Four days and almost 100 comments, and at the top of the forum threads, with the majority comments of outrage, over an isolated incident where one person saw another person give water to a dog from the fountain. When you are on your deathbed, will you look back on this thread and your comments and say to yourself, "I am so glad I spent my time asserting my position on dogs and water fountains." ? I would hope there are things that are actually more worthy of a person's time to think about and discuss. This, if considered rationally, is not one of them. Can everyone go out and enjoy their life and let this isolated moment of lack of consideration in someone's life go down the drain?
