Mirage. Are you referring to the lights or to the sirens?

as a retired realtor, I really didn't have any experience with selling homes backing up to a prison......but I do remember we had so many disclosures.....death/murder and the such that must be disclosed to the new buyer.

If this is something you really cannot get over, you might want to speak with the Florida Real Estate Commission FREC which is the governing association.

I really don't know if this should of been disclosed to you, but it can't hurt to try.

Since the 1970's I have had close friends who reside in Santa Fe, NM, in a neighborhood to the south and east of the Plaza, not far from the state prison. When an escape occurs or a riot New Mexico State Penitentiary riot - Wikipedia, as at Attica in NYS Attica Prison riot - Wikipedia, they get notified to not answer the door and so on. Frankly, it has never been a major problem for them or their neighborhood which is quite upscale and costly, by the way.

As for Coleman? United States Penitentiary, Coleman - Wikipedia

Looks like Whitey Bulger is in there!

Frankly, in The Villages, I would worry more about a sinkhole opening up under my house, my house being struck by lightning or a drunk driver running into my car or golf cart than living near Coleman.

It's a PRISON. They do lock the bad guys up. Escapes---probably few and far between, and the first thing the escapees will do is get far away from there. We had a max security prison right in the middle of our town for 181 years, and never a single escape.

I became good friends with the retired Deputy Chief of the State Police and he was a young patrolman...when the New Mexico Penitentiary riot occurred.

During one of our many rounds of golf together, he mentioned that the things that were done to some of the inmates, by other inmates, using blow torches...would stay with him the rest of his life.

It was a gruesome riot. At the time, in 1980, I was living in Los Alamos, NM and heard many stories from men I knew in law enforcement. Bruce King was governor, sort of a good old boy, and really did not do much about changing conditions (so called reform) at the prison.

I may be somewhat "old school" , like medieval, on prisons, but "reform" is a joke, given the recidivism rate. I think we waste far too much money on these facilities---all you really need is 3 barb wire fences, machine gun towers and a mine field. Live in barracks, grow your own food. If it was good enough for our soldiers who were captured in WWII, it certainly is good enough for violent criminals.

That is why I phrased it as "so called reform" which does nothing but reward the bad guys for their crimes at the expense of taxpayers. Some of the US prisons are like country clubs! It is even more ludicrous in so called "progressive" countries.. Convicts don't pay for their crimes yet their victims and taxpayers do!

It truly was gruesome according to my buddy.

So much so, I wouldn't even think or repeating some of the things here.

As for living in Los Alamos, one of my favorite scenic drives is the one from there, down past the Valles Calderra and back to ABQ through Jemez.

I know it well. Beautiful scenery. Great mule deer and elk country!

My concern is how crowded Brownwood will be when Fenney is completed. Does anyone know if there will be a town square built in Fenney?

My first thought when I saw the expansion was that they would but now without the exit off of the turnpike I doubt that another one will be built in Fenney. The attention 'draw' to drivers on the turnpike of a downtown to stop at without a convenient exit is gone. Plus too much money was spent on Brownwood. If another one gets built it most likely will be further (area closer to 75) so as not to dilute the investment made on Brownwood.

Just my thoughts........

Given the map of future villages, my guess would be a square further east, like maybe 2/3 of the way down 468.

Sounds reasonable.

As always it is fun for a lot of us to see what "they" will do next. It is utterly amazing that a private company can build and maintain such a beautiful metropolis.
