People up north with small yards would plant hedges in the front facing the street to block dust. They often used push lawnmowers. The Villages does NOT allow road-facing hedges for some (?) reason? The fast, riding commercial lawnmower may spew dirt particles in the air, which end up inside neighbor's homes. I saw a real problematic situation with one neighbor (fortunately about a block away) that cuts his own grass and THEN uses a blower to blow HIS grass clippings out onto the PUBLIC road. These do NOT magically disappear - as cars go by they grind up HIS grass clippings and spew the smaller particles up into the air to finally make their way into HIS and HIS neighbor's homes. There should be a nuisance law against that SICK practice!

That is what I understand. Many posters do not realize we do not all have the same systems. I also change the filter every six months and have a closed system.
I expect there are people with the system that takes the less expensive 1 inch thick filters and the instructions are to change them every month. I buy the original carrier filters. The off brand filters are not that much less. I had a guy in a store tell me the off brand filters that they sell are a little bit small. He offered to show me how to use wooden paint stirrers to make them fit. The whole system is rather crude. Little prevents air from bypassing the filter. The gaskets are held on with contact adhesive-another name for scotch tape. How many people have seen them hanging and ripped them off. I had one coming off. I glued it back with plyobond a glue invented and used to glue rubber pads on to tanks in WWII. I'm sure solvent based contact cement will work well and it is easier to find. |

These posts. Everyone seems to think they are perfect. We have chosen to live on top of each other and that has pluses as well as minuses. As far as hedges, I doubt they block dust. The ones that flower, release pollen part of what people call dust. In any case they do block vision. People in cars could not see you as you step out of your home. Your car? Your dog? Your grand kids? |

Find an AC contractor to install you an Aprilaire Air filter as a part of your normal AC in your house. You do not need the digital (automation) portion of this, only the Aprilaire filter receiver in lieu of the normal Air Filter you already have on your system. After they do that, then order your Aprilaire replacement filters from Amazon and you'll be able to change them yourself as needed. This is what I use and I got it because of the dust problem you mention. And, yes it does work. Just don't let them sell you all the replacment thermostats and digital stuff that you can also buy with this system. All you need is the filter hold apparatus installed on your system.

It is JUST a dirt-producing, lazy, obnoxious, small-minded, inconsiderate, and selfish way of disposing of grass cuttings. One of MY big pet peeves. Should be OUTLAWED! I hope every dog owner for miles around walks by their home and does not use a plastic pick-up. Would serve them right!

I think most good systems bring in outside air. My first system did not but my current system does and I have an air intake and filter outside of the home.
