Default You may be just kidding but...

No one here likes to be called by names that make them feel old.

Everyone here has great excitement when preparing to move and many fears too.

If you have a LOT of changes in a short time, behaviorists say your stress level increases. Very few people can handle a cross country move, a change in marital status, a change in occupation, a change in family such as an addition of a child or grandchild in a short time. It is sometimes enough to put you over the edge.

If you think you need help, go to a counselor.

There are quite a few reasons for how you feel, I would say.

You mentioned that you will be leaving family and friends.

You mentioned that the area where you live is economically depressed, and while that may be true, you have lived there for a period of time, and it's just difficult to pick up and move out. In it's own right, the Adirondack region is a very beautiful area of NY State.

For me, I live just over an hour's train ride north of New York City. There are a lot of enjoyable things to do in NY. I would miss that.

Then, there's always, as my wife says, "the change of seasons." She's right.

We have lived our whole lives in the NY metro area, and it's gonna be tough.

I'm not a basket case (yet). Just wondered if others felt more anxious as the move got closer. Want to make sure I'm "normal".

Keith, I just asked the same question. I haven't a clue. Must be an inside TV joke and since I'm not inside yet, I don't get it.

Default Emotionally charged as well...

We signed the contract Thurs to accept an offer on our house... Immediately we both have had ups and downs on "Are we doing the right thing"...We just hope we can move forward with common sense as to what to do next. Once the Inspection is complete and we know the final terms we need to shake rattle and roll! Our family is spread all over so we are not leaving family behind, that makes it a bit easier. And my cousin who is nearby is excited about a future place to visit. Once we know the date we plan to return to chat with our Sales Rep. Maybe we can meet some Frogs and Newbies..Would love to get started on meeting everyone. Revisit we think will be sometime middle to end of May.

My wife and I have moved 14 times in 45 years of marriage. We have given up some beautiful homes in some great places to go elsewhere, always to another beautiful home in another great place. We have left friends everywhere we have been and have the luxury of having great friends in many places we can visit and communicate with. Every move has been nothing but a "moving on and moving ahead" experience. Don't dwell on what you will miss, but dwell on the new things you will experience and the new friends you will make. Life is about change, and adapting and adjusting is one of the things that seperate us from other species, and keeps life interesting and exciting.

Hang in there Happi; you'll be fine. Your feelings are probably the way most people felt at first when moving to a new home far from their old one.
How many of us have had buyers or sellers remorse?
Lots I'm sure.
Try and think of all of the positives; a home you picked out and had built, new friends and new adventures.

I had a mini freak out after we signed all the papers. As much as I had longed to move to the villages for over 5 yrs, when the time finally arrived all I could think of is "what have we done????" Kind posters on TOTV shared with me that many had similar reactions so I didn't feel so crazy. I soon got over the panic and now, 6 months later, I have no regrets. DH and I were just talking about how we have gone to more parties/potlucks in 6 months than we have in the last 10 yrs. We've had so many friends and family visit this winter we are looking forward to some quiet time. Email, cell phones and skype keep us connected so we do not feel like we are missing anything. Its hard to move to a new area, (we've done it 12 times throughout our careers) but I can tell you this is, by far, the friendliest place we have ever lived in. Welcome to your new home!
