To stay on topic I'm against honking every time you enter a tunnel.

Default Its working!

A big thank you to everyone who has been honking their horns at tunnel entrances. I have seen several drivers honking their horns since my post. I think those drivers who cut the corners are becoming more aware that, son-of-a-gun, there just might be another cart in that other lane just out of their sight!

I also noted the behavior of one driver who not only honked his horn at the end of a tunnel, but also shouted unpleasant remarks at the offending driver. Let's not sink to that level folks. A simple, short toot will suffice.

I think it is unnecessary and childish. If people would use caution and look in the mirrors at the end of the tunnels, there should be no need to honk horns. Just today, I went through a tunnel where 2 carts following each other and overloaded with kids, honked their horns through the entire tunnel. It hurts your ears. Plus, if you happen to live next to a tunnel, can you imagine what the honking sounds like if it went on all day? Let's grow up and act our age.

Honking not necessary.......................

All u people who want to worry about what someone else is doing. It doesn't solve anything until the people who r making wide turns or cutting corners short almost hit someone or do hit someone or someone hits them. Just like it doesn't matter how many times there is a posting on the proper way to use the round- abouts. Talk, talk, talk but it doesn't change anything. -rave:

People wonder and sure enough someone posts the average income for residents of The Villages.

People wonder and sure enough someone posts the division of gas carts vis a vis electric cart owners in The Villages.

Based on some of the posts in this thread:

I wonder what the average IQ is in The Villages?

Funny! Sometimes you just have to beep to keep the little ones happy.

But I think a short beep to let oncoming traffic know there's someone in the tunnel coming at them blind would be helpful and not any more annoying than hearing sirens, mockingbirds, cranes, etc. You'd hardly notice it. And it's the custom in countries with narrow, twisting roads with blind curves. A matter of safety, and if done in a short burst would not bother anyone.

Default We are honkers

My husband and I now make it a habit of giving a short toot on the horn when coming out of the tunnels. Better be safe than sorry. Too many cutting the corners short.

Like Gracie, I have a long bodied cart. In mine all four passengers face forward. Many of the tunnels in my area have a center island dividing the lanes at each end, making it very difficult to make the tight turns. To avoid damaging my tires I turn into and out of the tunnels very slowly.

This has become a habit in all tunnels. As the front of my cart slowly eases out of the tunnel the wild drivers get plenty of notice that I'm there..... even the guy who was coming the wrong way on a single lane ramp, meeting me head on.

I also drive slowly through the tunnels in order to minimize the sound of my gas engine echoing. Did honk the horn inside tunnels a couple of times in the summer of 2012 for the benefit of a six year old, but would not routinely honk.

Let people yell or gesture at me for taking the tunnels slowly. I'm retired from a job where people used to shoot at me.

Glad you made it safely to retirement! You deserve to navigate the tunnels however you see fit.
