I'm ready for Thanksgiving and it's still a week away! I am all set to cook traditional dinner except we cook a turkey breast instead of a whole turkey.

Me too. Checked my yeast and it hasn't expired. Got frozen yellow squash, pecans and brown sugar and two packages of refrigerated orange cranberry relish from Publix, have the fresh turkey on order and have my supplies for both the cherry and pumpkin pie. Have to stock up on salad stuff early next week and broccoli for the broccoli parmesan but have enough celery and onion for dressing...wait, low on eggs.need creamed corn for corn custard. Should get more butter.
Need to use my Hallmark program to make menus and place cards. I have always done that. The kids aren't going to be here this year, but someone that has been my friend since we were five, she and her husband will be here. She likes my cooking. Hope I don't disappoint.

oh my, that sounds lovely. It will only be the 3 of us and my mom. All very traditional, but no cranberry sauce. I am the only person who will eat it. And I even make my own! Oh, well to each their own!

Connie - go back to the store and get the cranberry sauce. I am the only one who will eat it as well, but can't imagine a turkey dinner without it!

Why deny yourself? If you like it, you should have it.
BTW - It was nice meeting you and Patrick at the last Crisper's TOTV get together. ![]()

I found a yummy sounding recipe for doing the turkey breast in a crockpot which should keep it moist. Since I have 17 coming for dinner, I needed this in addition to the regular turkey. I will cook it in the garage to free up space. Just google crockpot turkey breast. I also cook the regular turkey in a turkey roaster out in the garage. It cooks faster than the oven and is always moist. I let the thawed turkey dry out in the fridge overnight, then baste with olive oil and Kitchen Bouquet before cooking. which gives it a nice crisp brown skin.
Hope you all have many blessings to be thankful for. |

If you have a little bit of extra "time" here is one that everybody will surely eat and enjoy: CRANBERRY ORANGE RELISH 2 CUPS FRESH CRANBERRIES (BAG IN PRODUCE DEPT) 1 LARGE SEEDLESS NAVAL ORANGE 1/2 CUP SUGAR 1/4 CUP "GRAND MARNIER" ORANGE LIQUEUR ** Wash orange, but do not peel it. Cut seedless naval orange into small 1 inch pieces. Combine cranberries and orange pieces in a food processor or strong blender CHOP (do not puree). Add sugar and Grand Marnier Orange Liqueur Pulse until combined. Refrigerate for at least six hours or overnight. Can be made a day ahead. Put in a pretty bowl and bring to your next party "invite" or serve at home with turkey or spiral sliced ham or roast chicken. It's a cut above canned Ocean Spray (which is still good in a pinch if you buy the whole berry variety, not the jellied type). p.s. **Frozen orange juice concentrate may be used in place of the Grand Marnier Orange Liqueur. |
