The POA issue is political - a large % admire them and another large % don't. You can't reason with emotion.

I don't think we can dis the POA. Regardless of their beating some topics to death, I think that they are a voice for the Villagers. The Daily Sun is the happy news. The letters to the Editor are god bless the Villages or :edit: the democrats. Does anyone think that the Daily Sun will print a Letter to the Editor that tells you how bad the ER room was at TVRH. I sent a poem about golf requests that they would not print because it was not to their standards (read not TV happy).

For all of the Villagers that pick up the POA bulletin and toss it without reading it, shame on you. There is some interesting information in there.
Thank you, thank you, thank you so much zcaveman. Hope that you found his recent Kahuna insult of the POA on page 1 of this very thread. His insults have been many and he gets away with it. So pleased for your support. ....barb

To get back to the topic, we met only one couple who were moving from TV back to where they had lived previously because he missed fishing. (I don't fish, so I didn't understand the issue.) We met them at their yard sale, and she was not happy about leaving....

I don't know why, but I am thinking of something completely unrelated (Hello Topicop...). We have a friend who will be 102 years old on November 4. She is the sweetest, most darling, warm, cheerful, loving, upbeat person I think I've ever met in my life; keep in mind that she is not only a widow but has outlived her daughter and is paralyzed and now living in a nursing home. At the big bash celebrating her 100th birthday, someone commented to me that Tillie "typifies the stereotypical 'sweet little old lady.'"

I disagreed, pointing out that Tillie is like this at age 100 because she was like this at ages 20, 40, 60, and 80 as well. And if Tillie were a miserable, whining, bitter, critical, judgmental, unhappy person at age 100, in all probability she was that way at ages 20, 40, 60, and 80 too.

I have no idea why this came to mind....

So...a difference of opinion is considered mean?

Are you saying I don't have a right to my opinion and if I state it I'm being mean?

:dontknow: :dontknow: Wow! The heat must be getting to the posters. Need to be HAPPY, Happy, Happy Village People! When we are in the Village we usually read the POA to find out information ----the Sun just does not give any true facts and we like to be well informed of our new winter home town. Bought two years ago and have decided to stay a "Snowbird" so when you live 6 months a year in two different States we depend on your posts and the newspapers for any and all information, may it be positive or negative. crap It is late~~~~~~nite all!

Let's see. Kahuna's vile disgusting attack on the POA consisted of:

"That's surely the way it appears to me. In fact, I don't think I know any grumps.

Whoops! I forgot the POA!"

I kinda interpreted that as meaning Kahuna thought the POA was negative in many of their views and had a reputation as such. Whether one agrees with their various actions, be they siding, stopping One Sumter, fixing the hospital system, or passing a constitutional amendment, can anyone possibly deny they are negative toward the developer and Villages management in general? At least one definition of grumpy is "annoyed and irritable." Does that not describe the attitude of the POA in many of it's actions? The POA members of the lawsuit did not split $350,000 because they were ecstatic and compliant.

But then, it doesn't really matter whether Kahuna was accurate in his depiction of the POA and more than whether Z was accurate in his attack on the Daily Sun. Anyone is more that welcome to take exception to what is said and to attempt to refute it. But to attack someone for having the opinion and accuse them of being mean, insulting, or disrespectful is the epitome of petty.

--- remember, this is only an opinion and is philosophical in nature -- no personal attacks whatsoever.

Hello to All : Since the POA has been mentioned in this thread I feel "compelled" to say something about the "negative" comments said about this organization. The POA Property Owners Association is the orignial Villages association started in 1975, go ahead and correct me if I am wrong on any of my "facts". This was started by Harold Swartz (The DEVELOPER) and the villagers in the Historic section of the Villages as this was the original Villages.

The Village Homeowners Association was started in the 90s????????? I think, after a dispute between the orginal villagers and the developer Harold Swartz in which promises were made to them and not kept and they went to court to win their right to the promises. The POA is the ONLY ASSOCIATION dedicated to your and my rights and welfare without profit on their minds. I could write a volumn on this but please do research and become involved in this ORGINAL ORGANIZATION.

Ladykathleen,
Thank you ladykathleen. Well put. I am amazed at all the new people who only know one side of the story who post and attack and post. They only know what the developers want them to know. However there are many silent readers who are afraid to post but are large in number. Isn't there about 5000 due paying members of the POA.?
I had teacher friends who came here 40 years ago. There is a great deal of history that is not known.
I am off to volleyball but thanks ladykathleen for being brave enough to post.

What's that phrase I used last winter that got me in so much trouble? Let's see . . . aah . . . now I remember. I thought it applied then in that thread. I know it applies here now.

Specious twaddle.

Spout all the lies and misconceptions you want about the VHA but do not express an opinion, especially any type of criticism, of the POA. If you do, you become a mean spirited shill of the developer and are resorting to personal attacks. And you're scaring poor honest people who disagree with you and keeping them from posting.
