Too true! The oft told story (true or not) of the man who dressed as a woman to get on one of the Titanic's lifeboats comes to mind.

Fear causes so many to revert into early childhood behavior: "Me first, me first, waaah!"

Then you add in the "entitlement" factor so prevalent in The Villages: "I deserve to be first in line because I'm old and can afford to live in a gated community!"

The struggle to get the vaccine immediately is like watching starving prisoners fighting over a piece of bread.

in the lifeboat unless you’ve been there ,I have been present to the last days of many governments around the world including the fall of Saigon I saw many good men and woman panic and try anything to get out the will to survive sometimes overtakes every other emotion

That sounds like each county needs to opt-in to use the statewide website as a queue system for their individual county vaccine program. But, it is definitely not very clear.
Yes, the opt in is important. One of the Orlando TV stations reported this morning that not all counties have opted in. One county in particular (not near us) wanted residents to know to NOT sign up on the site as they werent using it.
It is all confusing. Lake county seems to be using first come/first served and appointment.

I think that we all have to realize that this is a massive undertaking and that something like this has never been done before. There has been and will continue to be a huge learning curve.

So many are quick to complain and criticize but this country has been averaging over one million vaccines a day. We don't know if that's good or bad because we have nothing to compare it to. President Biden stated that it was his goal to distribute 1.5 million vaccines a day over his first hundred days. He must not have known that that number was already close to being accomplished.

As far as Florida goes, over 2 million people have received their first shot and many their second as well. That's over half of Florida's over 65 population. Considering that there are people who have decided to not get the vaccine or not get it until later, I'd say that we're doing pretty.

I've asked it before on this forum and I'll ask it again. Did anyone think that 330 million people were going to be vaccinated in a week?

One example of what is happening is the Publix system. Publix received about 25,000 doses in one delivery. For that same delivery, about 250,000 people tried to get an appointment. The odds were 10:1 of you're getting an appointment. On another delivery, they received something in the area of 46,000 doses and 300,000 people tried to get an appointment. That's about a 6:1 chance. We all just need to be patient. It's a matter of luck and you see what the odds are. The odds will get better as more and more people get their dose.

I hear a lot of people complaining about how this is being handled but I haven't heard any suggestions on how to do it better other than "I should be able to easily get an appointment and get my shot now and I shouldn't have to travel very far to get it."

At the rate that the over 65 population is currently getting vaccinated in Florida, everyone over the age of 65 should be taken care of by the end of March. And the process of getting an appointment should be getting easier as more and more people get their doses.

I am signing my spouse up on ANY prospective site available, within a two hour drive of home. If that bothers anyone, cry me a river. I am only taking one shot, so I am not taking anyone's spot. When there was a TP shortage, I spent a day driving around and searching for stores that were not already sold out. Once I got a sufficient supply (and stores limited purchases) then I returned home. I was willing to go the extra mile and did not expect anyone to provide for me. Taking one shot is not stopping anyone else from getting theirs and since many folks that have registered for the vaccination way after me have received their shots, I do not feel like I am shafting anyone. No one is going to knock on your door to give you the vaccination. You have to hunt for it to survive. If you are not willing to hunt, then you will have to do without.
I encourage EVERYONE to submit their information at as many sites and many counties as possible. Do not allow others to shame you for entering your info in more than one location. Their motive is only to make it easier for themselves. If you wish to survive, you must be willing to work for it. In a raffle, the more tickets you buy, the more you lower the odds for winning. No one faults you for entering a raffle more than once and they do not scream that you are cheating. This is way more important, so do what you have to do to survive.

Plus not everyone is on the mask, social distance and hand washing page so if they don't care about us why would we NOT do what is needed to do what we think important to take of ourselves.

FYI - Here's a web site that provides many views of the Florida vaccination data.

VACCINE - COVID-19 in Florida (Dr. Jason Salemi)

It shows close to 30% vaccinated in Sumter as of the end of January. So it appears your estimate of over 65 who want to be vaccinated by the end of March is plausible if they can maintain a vaccination rate in the 7,000 per week range.

Default Lake county vaccine site

I live in Sumter and registered for the Lake County web site with Share Care. I received an appointment. I was asked if I was positive within the last two weeks. The answer was no back in Dec. 8th. I arrived was registered, went through screening( this is held at the old Sears building on 441, Leesburg)...after two screeners I waited for my turn. I finally arrived at the nurses station to receive my vaccine and was then asked if I had Covid. I said yes Dec. 8th. The nurse stated I need to wait 90 days after my positive in order to get the vaccine or else I may get sick. They have a great process but they left out the 90 day positive rule.. just a warning.

You snooze, you lose.
Yes, everyone will eventually get it BUT pretty soon, you will also be competing with the under 65yo group. They are giving you head of the line privilege so take advantage of it. The way to get your vaccination is to either put your name in several hats or wait until your doctor gets it in a year or two, and stay at home until then. Most folks want to get on with their lives. You are not hurting anyone by getting on several lists. They do not throw away one that would have your name on it if you do not respond when they call. The next person on the list will be contacted. Telling folks to wait in one line that might not even get a new shipment of vaccine, is just allowing others that have the initiative to act to get in line before them in other locations. I am sure the ones that are motivated don't mind everyone telling people to wait their turn. It only helps them get their shots and resume their lifestyles faster.
If you want to help others secure their vaccination, then pass on current info on where to go and how to do it. Some on here are actually signing neighbors up.
