How many have tried a mat shot? Don't know what that is? Ask a bartender, lol.

Ya know the little mats on the bar that the bar keep pours all the drinks on all night long? At the end of the night you take all the spills and pour the contents of the rubber mat into a shot glass.

Dare ya!

If it’s a whiskey night, I prefer Evan Williams to more expensive brands because it is very sour, which I like mixed with Gosling’s Diet Ginger Beer. For sipping, try Ensign Red Mango flavored Canadian whiskey over crushed ice. It’s like drinking a perfectly ripe mango. Often I drink Not Your Father’s Root Beer, which tastes exactly like a very good root beer but has more alcohol than many beers.
Amari are favorites of mine too. A Negroni might be my favorite cocktail. For refreshing drinks, I like a Campari & club soda or an Aperol spritz. After dinner, some Benedictine & brandy hits the spot.

Thanks for the tip on Not Your Father’s Root Beer. I see that Total Wine carries it and I'll get some.

For more casual occasions, Lipton citrus diet iced tea is an excellent option. I always have several bottles ready to pour.

Corona light, or Ultra beer, Usually a couple bottles of Scotch, single malt and blended.
Wine, buy the kit and make at a friends who has the equipment, Have around 25-40 bottles aging at all times, usually an Italian Red. Maybe some Bailey's for ice cream topping occasionally.

I used to hate Scotch,.. I mean, really hate Scotch.

Later, I went on a graduate school trip to Scotland and was lucky enough to room with the grandson of a major jewelry chain. He like to drink, and he liked to show off, so he bought flights of scotch every night and seldom paid attention to who actually drank them.

We went to a pub named the Copper Pot in Glasgow. The bartender asked what I wanted and I shared that I didn't like Scotch (the only thing they served). The bartender took a little offense and accepted the challenge to change my mind.

They had shots (Drams as they call them) from $5 to $2000. The $2000 stuff was locked behind plexiglass on the top shelf.

Once I realized that Scotch was a slow sipping drink rather than a head-tilting fast swallow, I began to appreciate the smokey brew. The bartender pointed out the caramel notes, the fruit, and the grasses.

Somehow, I staggered away with an appreciation for Scotch. My rich show-off room-mate made sure my dram was never empty that trip and I still drink Scotch from time to time.

I generally drink Johnny Walker Black as it is a good mid-point between the top and bottom shelf.

Being a former home brewer, I enjoy a nice beer once in a while. Have gotten away from beer as it tends to cause bloating for me.
Have you tried Fever Tree ginger beer?

Usually I drink Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, reserve. Hubby prefers bourbon. We drink about once a week…maybe.
Can we be friends? LOL

It’s amazing how a little liquor improves the flavor of water, and you still get all the water‘a health benefits!

We also typically split a bottle of wine with dinner - anything from a $3 buck chuck or box wine through a $300+ bottle, depending on occasion, where we are, what we're in the mood for, or what we have on hand. I rate wines as a hobby on the Vivino app, so I tend to drink a lot of different ones, but I typically prefer Napa Valley Cabernets - like manaboutown, one of my favorites is Stag's Leap. We also buy cases of wines from NakedWines.com and I've found a couple extremely reasonably priced gems from there.

Occasionally we'll also have a small glass of sherry or port before bed.

Yeah, we drink too much.
Love the Vivino app. Just take a picture of the bottle and it tells you the rating. Plus it is a great place to buy wines.

BTW, are there any Cocktail Clubs at TV where folks can share drink recipes, and perhaps sample the “drink of the week”?

Glad to meet someone else that uses the Vivino app. I got hooked on using it several years ago when touring wineries in the Finger Lakes and have used it ever since. Look me up on there sometime (same screen name as here on ToTV) - I can always use another follower or someone else to follow!

No will have to try the Fever Tree ginger beer.

I forgot to note that my brother when he was in high school would buy jugs of Welch's grape juice, add yeast and capped with a balloon. He kept it in a a small hideaway and, after the balloon shrunk, he would rebottle in smaller bottles to sell at school. One day he came home from school to find our mom pouring his brew down the sink. Me - I would have begged for forgiveness. My brother - he cried out "Mom, that is good money you are pouring down the sink!"
