How would you do that?

On the other side of the law enforcement coin is safety. Many deaths occur due to traffic incidents. How do you lower the death rate from traffic incidents? You prevent or deter risky behavior. The riskiest? Speeding and drunk driving. How do you actually save lives? You write traffic tickets to deter risky behaviors.

You might want to go back to the living room, I heard "Hawaii 5-0" is starting. Before you go, tell me what you did for a career so I can second-guess and critique how it should actually be done based on my armchair quarterbacking.

Nah, just a couple of trolls who want to stir the pot on purpose. The rest of us are happy to see the Police out and about, meeting folks in the area, getting to know their community. The rest of us, in fact, really did read and absorb that these officers are not out writing tickets but instead are providing "general presence" community service.

By being seen, they are already deterring violators. Just the fact that they're there and visible. While they're there and visible, they're also reaching out to meet the public in their department's new Police cart.

I think it's awesome.

I do too.

I remember officers walking the beat at town squares. I can't remember the last time I saw them (out of their cars) in LSL or BW outside a special event.

Just curious how most golf car drivers know how fast they or any other golf cart driver is going. My cart doesn't have a speedometer. Since my cart will often get caught and even passed by other carts even when I have the pedal to the metal, I assume it is not that fast. But judging the speed in my cart is like judging the speed of my bicycle. It's just a wild guess. Phone apps aren't precise at lower speeds. They are like those cheap blood pressure gauges. Hit and miss.

Golf carts that are set appropriately can't go over 20mph. Some can only go 17 or 18, those are mostly rental carts from the Villages Golf Car store. The maximum -legal- speed for a golf cart around here is 19.8mph, and that's generally the fastest they're set to run.

So if you know your cart came from the store, brand new, and is in compliance, then your golf cart won't go faster than 19.8. If someone is passing you, then they're speeding. The speed limit in /most/ of the residential parts of the Villages is 20mph. In some areas it's only 15mph (like the posted speed limit at the Paradise Rec center area from the baseball diamond to the church). In some areas it's 25 (like most of the rest of the Historic Section). Golf cart path speed limit is 20 with few, posted exceptions.

If your cart is second-hand, you can find our your top speed by simply using a GPS on your cell phone. Pick a destination that requires you to go on a straight-away long enough to maintain maximum speed for a couple of seconds. Then do that, and take a look at the GPS. It'll tell you exactly how fast you're going.

A GPS can be used as a speedometer if you need to know, but it's a battery-sucker, so I wouldn't recommend using it regularly.

Do you have a source for the claim of the lack of accuracy of the phone's GPS at lower speeds? I would like to see the math behind that.

I have a Garmin GPS on one of my carts and another brand (don't recall which) of GPS spedometer on the other. I have compared them to each other and to the Waze app on my phone. Either all three are accurate or all three are inaccurate in exactly the same amount. I'm going to believe that all three are accurate.

Not really that simple. Most golf carts in the villages are "LSV" or low speed vehicles. They have what most people refer to as "the villages package" on them which is turn signals lights horn seatbelts…Florida laws differentiate between golf carts and LSV's. Florida statute allows those to be operated on streets up to 25 miles an hour under specific conditions. From my experience I'd say at least 50% of the golf carts in the villages can go 25 miles an hour

None are doing 30.

That’s like going a little over 40 on a 35 road or 84 on the turnpike.

I would prefer the police spend time keeping the CARS at speed limit than a golf car going 23 MPH.
As a pedestrian walking 3MPH I deserve to be safe on the MMP. So slow down!
