I have a Garmin GPS on one of my carts and another brand (don't recall which) of GPS spedometer on the other. I have compared them to each other and to the Waze app on my phone. Either all three are accurate or all three are inaccurate in exactly the same amount. I'm going to believe that all three are accurate.
The quote you were replying to is actually correct. The "GPS" in your phone is actually derived from cell towers and not receiving a GPS tone from the satellites orbiting the Earth like a true GPS receiver is. This is why you do not get GPS coordinates on your phone when you're in airplane mode, and why you cannot get directions if you turn off the cellular data on your phone. As you move especially in slower movements it is hard for the towers to accurately track (PING) you because you are not moving very fast in relation to them. This is why GPS on your phone is less accurate at slower speeds.

Florida statute allows those to be operated on streets up to 25 miles an hour under specific conditions. From my experience I'd say at least 50% of the golf carts in the villages can go 25 miles an hour
Wrong LSV's also have VIN numbers. There are also other criteria I believe like dual braking system and something to do with wind sheild configuration - I can't remember. Google is your friend. Going over 20 mph does not make a cart a LSV. It makes it an illegal golf cart and non registered vehicle.

I was reading this thread and just wondered why you people are so nasty to each other.

I imagine you are more alike than different -- of a similar age, have similar financial resources to afford the Villages, probably play the same courses.

I do watch police shows.

That is not correct.

The iphone DOES contain a GPS receiver. The iphone ALSO contains software to determine location from cell towers and wifi signals when the GPS signal is not available (indoors).

You do not get GPS coordinates in airplane mode because airplane mode turns off the radios (cell, wifi, bluetooth, gps) in the phone. No radio, no ability to receive coordinates. (EDIT: this might not be completely accurate. The GPS receiver may still be active but without cell data to retrieve a map or report a location the GPS coordinates are of little use)

You do not get direction information when your cell service (AND wifi service) is turned off (or unavailable) because your phone cannot get the map data to plot where you are. The phone still knows your location, it just can't show you where you are on a map.

Don't take my word for it, look it up.

Not true. Most all smartphones today have a GPS chip that receives and processes the GPS satellite signals. Most phones use GPS along with cell tower signals to provide positioning and speed data. The reason your navigation doesn’t work in airplane mode is because all your maps are internet based and without access to those maps you can’t navigate. Even at low speeds, your location and speed calculated by your phone is very accurate.

Default Do the right thing

Good for them ,they don’t do this randomly. It was brought to their attention , I’m glad to see them calm down some of the reckless driving habits in the carts. bashing the police is NOT the answer. Try just following the laws, it’s not so hard.

The GPS function on most newer smart phones remains on even in Airplane Mode. As long as the phone is able to "see" the satellites its GPS can function. And many phones will store the last map generated while you were still connected to a cell tower or wifi in its cache and use that to show your tracking. The big hurdle is actually being able to "see" the satellites while in the airplane. Sitting by a window will often make it work.

Like a sitcom on TV, when everyone plays nice and there are no disagreements or misunderstandings it's boring. It's when things go off the rails that it gets fun and interesting. Arguments are not necessarily mean spirited, like mental arm wrestling. But not being mean spirited doesn't mean it is without emotional content.

As you can see by the… In my post I was saying that my list of configurations was not all inclusive.
This has become a more interesting topic of golf cart speeds. I just got off the phone with a Sumter County Sheriff who was trying to tell me that the maximum speed of golf cart can legally go....anywhere in TV is 15 miles an hour?!?!?!? He obviously did not know the rules… And he is a deputy sheriff!
I looked up the statutes and essentially a golf cart is a vehicle (that I won't make a description because you know what it is) but according to the statues has a maximum speed of 20 miles an hour. Under Florida law and LSV is defined as a golf cart that can go over 20 miles an hour but less than 25 miles an hour. According to Florida law any golf cart that is capable of going over 20 miles an hour is no longer a golf cart but is an LSV. Under Florida law LSV's have to have several safety items… And those items are what people refer to as the villages package. FYI all golf carts sold after a certain date (2012?) have a manufactures certificate of origin and have VIN numbers. One thing they do not have is a windshield wiper. You also have to have the LSV registered with Florida. Other than the windshield wiper and the registering with the state of Florida… Which is fairly painless, I have everything on my golf cart that would enable it to be an LSV. That opens up some possibilities like going from Marsh Bend to get south of warm Springs. If I had a legal LSV I could legally use the roundabout because the speed at the roundabout is 20 miles an hour.....FREEDOM!!!!!!

Interesting. Please point out where I posted I was a military veteran. But I was a first responder, even though I didn't post that either.
